One of the many fantastic graphic novels I picked up during my trip to the San Diego Comic Con last year was Image Comics' "Lions, Tigers and Bears". This gorgeous story, beautifully written, drawn and realised was a great find for me and it left me wanting so much more once I'd read it.
The story features the adventures of an 8 year old boy named Joey Price who discovers that his stuffed feline animals (otherwise known as the "Night Pride") can come to life to protect him from "The Beasties", monsters who come out of his closet to get him in the middle of the night.
Now word has hit the net that Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has picked up the rights through Paramount for a live action and heavily dosed CGI movie based on the comic series.
I'm truly excited to hear this news and with the current technology for CGI being able to create believable creatures & characters, the anthropomorphised felines in this movie could be fantastic. Plus there are no adult characters in the comic, just Joey and his 9 year old female friend Courtney Donlolley, so if they stick to the source material this could not only be visually stunning but quite a scary little movie for kids... No adults to come to the rescue... I do hope however that it's an older themed production, not aimed for the younger generation. Action, violence and dark themes would suit this movie much better!
More news as it's released.
