SAVE SGU - Update

For those of you not currently climbing the walls waiting for news on the fate of SGU, here's the latest from Joseph Mallozzi's blog:

28th Jan

Still no definite word on the Stargate front although I am being cc’d on the various emails concerning meetings, etc. Alas, a third season looking less likely, but there are other scenarios that would allow us complete this incredible journey.

Oh boy was I not happy when I read that!!!! I DON'T want a Tv movie...........I WANT ANOTHER 6 SEASONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT LEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then, I read yesterdays entry.

30th Jan

Speaking of buzz – I exchanged emails with Brad today and he reports another major hurdle has been cleared. Almost there, Stargate fans. Again, this is show business, so even the most promising of scenarios can go sideways fast (and dead-end scenarios turn around just as quickly). Nothing is written in stone but things are looking MUCH better now than they did last week when things looked much better than they did the week before. Meetings are still ongoing and I, like most of you, am really beginning to feel antsy. Hopefully, by the time we head back into the office for the Day 1 Mix of Blockade, we’ll have something more substantial to discuss

Oh sweet Jesus please say some genius mind from another network has stumped up the cash to cover the SYFY portion of the budget. I'm sure that not every network is as short sighted as FOX and now SYFY.

NEW SUPERMAN FOUND - AND HE'S BRITISH!!!!

Henry Cavill has now officially been cast as Clark Kent/Superman in the upcoming and untitled Superman project under Zak Snyder and Christopher Nolan's direction.

"So who the hell is Henry Cavill?" I here you ask. The actor, best known to American audiences for his role in the Showtime series The Tudors, has actually been up for Superman before. According to Deadline, he was considered for the role by directors McG and Brett Ratner for the Superman project they were both attached (prior to Superman Returns)

I don't think that the actor will make or break this project, as Superman is a universal brand that is iconic to most geeks............I think the direction that Snyder takes, and the script will ultimately make this a return to form for the Man of Steel.

Here's something for the ladies out there to drool over, that is if you like that brooding obvious good looking thing.

THUNDERCATS HOOOOO!

Although I am late on the Thundercats News, I have to say that the return of the Thundercats is the best thing to happen to cartoons in 2 decades. (that is my thought) My childhood was exciting to know that I could wake up in the morning on a Saturday and watch my favourite cartoons and be happy for the rest of the day, but that changed and kids programs became silly and bland. (not naming any names) Now the kids of today can experience what I did whilst watching Thundercats and that is Adventure, Fun, Action and Heroism not forgetting the fact it taught you how to share and be nice, which I don't think cartoons do anymore. I could also be completly wrong and the cartoon is nothing like the ones from the 80's and if that happens then it will be a flop, also they should keep the original theme tune as that is the best theme around and people still reconise it today. I am happy that the characters have not changed too much from the original, obviously will have to expect some changes too bring it up to date but where is Snarf ? I may of missed an image but I did not see his image and if he is not in it then that would be another mistake. I'm excited to see where this all goes and I believe that the toy line will be absolutly massive and if this becomes massive again then we can see a film in the makes. All I'm waiting for now is my other 2 favourite cartoons to be remade and they are Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors and M.A.S.K, I will then be a very Happy Man.

The Empire Farts Back...

Does exactly what it says on the tin...

Batman: Arkham City... Fan Made Batman + Joker Video

You could well be fooled into thinking that this video below tantalises Batman: Arkham Asylum/City fans with the hope that they might get some Batman/Joker co-op action in the new game... But believe it or not this is actually a fan made video using the first game's character models and dialogue to make an all new battle clip.

It's awesome and very well done. Love the last few seconds... "POW!"

UPDATE: Oh well, Warner Bros got the video banned and taken off every site hosting it. Gits...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Teaser Trailer

On January 18th Square Enix released the first teaser trailer for a sequel to last years hit game Final Fantasy XIII (13). Square Enix Europe has said that the game "exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect", including the battle system.

The game takes place after the events of Final Fantasy XIII, with its overall storyline set to be darker than the original. The game will feature returning characters with Lightning as the main protagonist once again, along with other characters who will return “with major and unexpected changes". The game will send players on a journey to locate the gate to the invisible world. The goddess Etro will play a pivotal role in the plot.

It due for release in Japan later this year and in the US and Europe winter 2012. It will be available on the PS3 and XBox 360.

FF fans are quite skeptical about sequels after Final Fantasy X-2. I personally didn't mind X-2 but it didn't hold my interest like the first game so although I will prob end up buying XIII-2 I'm not sure yet if it can live up to the fans expectations.

Black Swan Visual Effects

I haven't seen Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan yet, but I found this behind-the-scenes visual effects video brilliantly interesting! I think its easy to forget how much little enhancements affect a film and just how natural these visual effects can be. Enjoy!

Whats Eating Leonardo DiCaprio?

Some clips aren't the best quality and fairly NSFW but a brilliant compilation video of DiCaprio freaking out haha! I love this man, look at his bloody acting !

Awesome Beat Box Guy - Video

A history of Hip Hop told through beat boxing... Incredible skills here!

I have no words for this.

Just. Wow.

Watch This Video...

This video below is simultaneously the greatest and worst thing I have ever seen in my life... No kidding.

It's a 10 minute Russian-dubbed excerpt from the most expensive Indian film ever made called "Enthiran" (Robot) and has some of the craziest, yet most awesome, moments in movie history which simply gets nuttier and nuttier as you keep watching... It's like The Matrix Reloaded and Terminator 2 pumped up on super-vindaloo steroids!

Now you've watched it... you can't un-watch it!!! :P

Tron Audi R8

Following on from my previous Tron segway post, I bring you photos of a real life Tron-altered Audi R8.
West Coast Customs teamed up with Monster Cables (a company who specialises in HDMI cables, amongst other sorts) to create this behemoth of a Tron-themed vehicle.
Although unfortunately not road-legal due to the fact that the entire thing is basically a GLOWING MIRROR OF RAD, its still undeniably cool.
Check out some more photos below.

Sexy Star Wars?

I can't tell if these are brilliant or scary or a bit of both, but here are Star Wars pin ups created by Yayzus Graphics;

Thundercats And More At London Toy Fair 2011!

As one of the many perks of my work over the last 4 years I've been lucky enough to go to events here and abroad on behalf of the companies I work for. The last two years it's been for my own company/shop Red Sun Comics & Collectables, and what better an event than a Toy Fair?

The London Toy Fair is the premier UK event for manufacturers to show their upcoming products, both to prospective buyers and the public, and although 2011 wasn't particularly eventful in brand new news there were a couple of things that caught my eye... I wasn't allowed to photograph any of it (although that didn't stop some people as I saw some of the pics below go up on line yesterday by some unscrupulous git via Thundercatslair.org) and I can't tell you much as I signed various non-disclosure agreements whilst viewing some of products in locked rooms, but here's a taster.

First up is the confirmation of a brand new Thundercats cartoon. OK so we'd all heard that one was on the way but up until today (or yesterday if you count the on line leak) I didn't know it was actually happening for real. To be honest I'm not 100% sold on the new designs at all at this stage, the characters all looks just that little bit too different for my young 80's mind to cope with (mutton chops massive barbarian Panthro, Tygra with a gun and an un-sexy diarrhoea coloured Cheetara), and the Manga-esque tint they all have (mostly Lion-O) doesn't float my boat... But then again it's frickin Thundercats and I'll love it no matter what!

As you'll see from the pics there's going to be a new range of toys from Bandai (which I saw in person today myself) which feature very well made 3.75" action figures, a new Battletank with sleak mini motor bikes that shoot out from underneath both front claws, a new Cats-Lair playset, a brand new Sword of Omens toy replica with movement + lights + sounds, a 15-20cm Lion-O figure and then my favourite which is the original 80's Lion-O in 20cm action figure form. They all look great and you can see these flying off the shelves when the show finally comes out this year. Below the first two pirate pics you'll find the official Warner Bros one which popped up yesterday in response to the leak...

The second thing I found out a lot about, but can't talk about the toys directly, is Doctor Who in 2011. Basically I've seen the new toys from Character Options based on the upcoming series and it looks like there's some very cool moments coming our way, maybe even the possible death (and possible re-birth) of Matt Smith's Doctor, and the destruction and rebuilding of the Tardis (again!) but that's unconfirmed. I can't say what the toys were due to the non disclosure agreement but that's the hint I got from what was being said and what I saw.

Lastly was the vast amount of new licenses and items being taken up by new companies such as:

Excellent Angry Birds plushes of all shapes and sizes + sounds from Character Options
Awesome Ghostbuster plushes (Stay Puft with movie music) from Underground Toys
New Family Guy plushes (the previous lot have sold so well for them it's crazy)
New Transformer movie plushes with sounds/music and high quality logo cushions (I own the first two versions!)
New Star Wars plushes with sounds including Princess Leia, Jawa, Boba Fett, C3-P0 and many more
New DC comic character bobble heads and vinyl toys distributed by G4G and Hive (all look awesome)
Wicked new Super Mario plushes and remote control Karts from Hive
New Tron Legacy toys from Spinmaster
New Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and Real Steel toys from Flair

And a lot more besides all that... It was a long and fruitful day and Red Sun will be doing a lot more cool stuff in 2011!!!

Here are two pics of some DC stuff I saw there which although might be available elsewhere in the world right now, we haven't had in our shop and I can't wait to get them! The second pic is a screen grab from the Little Mates website but the real things are so cute in their mini vinyl form, I want the whole lot!

SGU: Can it be saved????

Well it appears that not all is final when I comes to SYFY cancelling SGU. There are various people at work (Joseph Mallozzi being the architect) hammering away to get the show funded from another source.

As you may be aware (If you care to look into it) SGU was not fully funded by SYFY and MGM haven't pulled out their stake in the show. At present only SYFY have chucked it in favour of wrestling and other rubbish, non scifi, TV.

There may be an announcement any day about the fate of my favourite sci fi show on TV in years, and you can check for yourself at http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/, the personal blog for Mr Mallozzi himself.

If you want to see this show return for season 3 PLEASE PLEASE get behind the save SGU campaign and show the love.

Check out the clips for some of the best scenes in the series and just why SGU deserves to return for 10 more seasons!!!!!

And a few pics to highlight some of the shows other.......assets.
