Movies on the horizon and news from ones we know about according to recent reports:
Die Hard 5 - In a recent interview with MTV, Bruce Willis claimed John McClane may stop even more terrorists, revealing, "I think we're going to do a 'Die Hard 5' next year." And that's not all! He has ideas!
"I would hire Len Wiseman right now," he said, referring to the director the well-received fourth chapter in the series, 2007 release "Live Free or Die Hard." He also has an idea of the scope of the next movie, a pretty obvious next step for a series which has gone from "trapped in a building" to "trapped in an airport" to "trapped in New York City" to, most recently, "trapped by the Internet." So what's next?
"Well it's got to go worldwide," Willis concluded. "That would be my contribution to [the next movie]."
Transformers 3 - A pretty minor spoiler, but apparently Bumblebee and Optimus Prime will be redesigned for this film. "Bumblebee's matured a little bit, so I would just say look for subtle changes to his physique that have him look more mature," says animation designer Scott Benza. And Optimus Prime will have very subtle changes that only fanboys will notice, but they'll make him more heroic, and maybe easier to render. And yes, there'll be new robots in this movie.
Death Race 2 - The direct to DVD prequel "Death Race 2" takes place in the very near future, as the United States economy begins to decline and violent crime starts to spiral out of control. To contain the growing criminal population, a vast network of for-profit, private prisons springs up, creating a lawless subculture ruled by gangs, cold-blooded killers and sociopaths. The worst of these prisons is Terminal Island. Convicted cop-killer Carl Lucas arrives on the Island to serve his life sentence just as ruthlessly ambitious television personality September Jones launches the ultimate reality show, Death Race. A brutal prison yard demolition derby that pits prisoners against each other in steel reinforced, heavily armed vehicles, Death Race offers the winner the ultimate prize: freedom - if he can survive to enjoy it. When Lucas signs up to be a driver, the stage is set for the birth of a legendary racer.
Police Academy - No director, writer or cast at this time but original producer Paul Maslansky said "It's going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV. It's going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It'll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we'll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme."
Mission Impossible 4 - Paramount Pictures has gone out of their way to announce the confirmation of Mission: Impossible 4 -- in what feels like a rushed project, coming out in just over a year.
The film is being described as a reboot, without J.J. Abrams behind the camera and will most likely introduce agents to take over the franchise. It also arrives during a packed May 2011 which already has scheduled Thor, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and The Hangover 2.
HOLLYWOOD, CA (February 9, 2010) – Paramount Pictures announced today that it is making “Mission Impossible IV.” The film, which will be produced by Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot Productions and will star Cruise, will be released Memorial Day weekend 2011.
“Tom and J.J. are great talents and we are excited to be working with them to re-launch this legendary franchise,” said Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO Brad Grey.
Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are attached to write the script, from an original idea by Cruise and Abrams.
The studio, Cruise and Abrams are in now the process of identifying a director for the film.
Blade 4 - Although it's unlikely anyone will actually want to work with Wesley Snipes again on another Blade sequel (as the lawsuit he had filed against him brought out some very nasty comments about him and his work) the actor would like to see a 4th movie which would aloow him to do and show things they weren't able to with the other 3. He said to MTV: "The first and the second one were experiments, and we started to get better. If we do another one, it will reflect our maturity and our better understanding of the genre. [I'd like to see] a larger, multiracial cast, and it would be great to have some rehearsals before some of the action sequences." So not really a confirmation of a new movie, just the thought that Snipes may be up for another one...
