This is certainly one to take with a pinch of salt but during an MTV interview with Keanu Reeves on the red carpet of the Oscars this week the star was jokingly told by a reporter that studios should green light a new Bill & Ted movie.
Reeves then replied "we're trying, we're trying" and at that the reporter followed up with the obvious question "are you joking?" to which he swiftly said "I'm not"...
It's been a pretty long time since we saw Bill and Ted in movie theatres, the last time being 1991 for Bogus Journey and 1989 for the original film, but it's difficult to imagine Reeves (now a pretty damned big Hollywood star) and Alex Winter (now a director doing movies such as the live action Ben 10 flicks) returning to their airhead roots. I'd believe it if I heard that there was going to be a straight-to-DVD sequel with unknown actors playing the leads, but a direct movie sequel? Hmmmm... Either way Reeves didn't say and it's not as if that very short conversation that started in jest could be taken as anything another than a joke backfire.
We'll have to wait and see, I'll admit though that I am a fan ofBill and Ted.
