Wanna Be The Rocketeer? You're $75K Closer Now...

Holy crap I want one of these beauties...

OK so it looks like a rejected prop for an Agent Cody Banks movie (if you've seen them you'll know exactly what I mean) but this $75,000 jet pack from The Martin Aircraft Company will be on sale very soon, to anyone!

The Martin Aircraft Company jet packs have about 200 HP coming out of their dual propellers. They can go up to 1.5 miles [high] in the air and reach speeds of 60 mph. They will aim to make about 500 packs a year.

These jet packs were invented by Glenn Martin, who unveiled his prototype last year in July. This whole contraption weighs less than 254 lbs, so in the UK, you won't need a pilot's license to travel in it. It is capable of traveling 30 miles with a full tank of fuel.

It's not exactly The Rocketeer's streamlined version (and the awesome gold finned helmet doesn't quite go with it) nor is it as small as the pack from the Bond movie Thunderball, but it works and it looks frickin awesome. They're saying the pack will be perfect for the military, emergency services and very rich people who don't have a fear of heights... or dying for that matter.

This is a video of the pack in action:

And for those of you that want something more expensive but less cool, here is the $135K "Jetlev" pack which runs on high pressure water being pumped through a large hose connected to a boat. Unfortunately you're tethered with this one so it's almost a new water sport accessory than a cool jet pack, I prefer the one above!
