Producer Avi Lerner (The Expendables, upcoming Conan remake) spoke to Empire recently and has revealed that the Red Sonja movie adaptation is going ahead and he already has a director lined up and actress in mind for the lead role.
He said;
“We will definitely shoot ‘Red Sonja’ in between Conan and Conan 2. We already chose the director: an English guy called Simon West...”
Simon West is best known for directing Con Air, whilst projects since such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and several TV movies and series have failed to hit the mark. Could Red Sonja be a big breakthrough? Doubtful but lets hope so !
“We’re talking to a few girls for the role of Sonja, but we just finished a movie called Drive Angry 3D with Amber Heard, and I want to see her. She’s my favourite for the role.”
Amber Heard is a relatively young and new actress, (Pineapple Express, Zombieland) and I'm really hoping she does pull it out the bag here. Shes absolutely stunning, albeit not as well endowed as the comic book Red Sonja (but who is!?) or as muscular... However, considering todays technology and film tricks, that shouldn't be a problem.
