Movie News Rundown...

Another short burst of movie news and images below for you again this week. Enjoy!

MacGyver the movie?

Yes it's true, following in the big-screen footsteps of the A-Team movie, MacGuyver may be going into production sometime soon.

From Firstshowing.net: Variety reports Saw and Insidious director James Wan is in talks with New Line Cinema to adapt the TV series MacGyver into a feature film. Richard Dean Anderson led the series following Angus McGyver, an educated scientist with a background as a bomb team technician in Vietnam, who worked for the fictional government agency DXS (Department of External Services). Known for never carrying a gun and avoiding violence unless necessary, MacGyver used wits and a hodgepodge of goodies combined to thwart bad guys.

Bangkok Dangerous and Bad Company writer Jason Richman wrote the first script and it was most recently rewritten by Brian and Mark Gunn (who last penned Journey 2: The Mysterious Island).

Tom Hardy joins 'Splinter Cell' video game movie

From Firstshowing.net again:This past summer, studios were said to be battling over the rights to Ubisoft's popular video game franchise Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. However, the property still hasn't found a studio home despite ongoing talks with Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures. But the project just gained a huge amount of steam today as Variety report Tom Hardy has signed on to star in the adaptation with The International writer Eric Warren Singer scripting. The film will have Hardy playing Sam Fisher highly-trained special operative in a fictional black-ops operation called Echelon. It definitely sounds better than his action in This Means War.

In the video game, Fisher is aided by trifocal goggles which use both night vision and thermal readings, allowing him to see in the dark. It's just one of the many tools and skills Fisher has at his disposal to bring down the bad guys. Ubisoft is quickly getting their video games to the big screen after establishing their own film branch in 2011. Assassin's Creed is already moving forward with Michael Fassbender both starring and producing. Of course, getting big names talents is hardly a guarantee for a worthy video game adaptation. Let's not forget that Tomb Raider had Angelina Jolie, and it still wasn't all that great. But Hardy is one of the biggest actors in Hollywood right now, and this will get a lot of fans interested.

New pic of Matt Damon in Elysium

After pushing the film to a late summer 2013 release, Sony Pictures have released a new still image from Neill Blomkamp's anticipated sci-fi film Elysium, featuring Matt Damon.
In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

First image of Karl Urban as 'Vaako' in new Riddick movie

Director David Twohy has updated his personal blog with some new snaps - one an official still of Karl Urban reprising the role of Vaako from the last movie.
The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.
