I think hardcore anime fans across the globe just breathed a collective sigh of relief... Or not, depending on which side of the fence you sit on...
Keanu Reeves has passed on the role of Kaneda in the live-action all-American Akira remake. For the moment the film is still held in development limbo and hasn't even been green-lit, but you can't see Mr. Reeves' backing off as a good sign...
Oh well, to be honest I'd rather see the awesome George Takei play every part in a live-action adaptation than see Reeves as Kaneda so I'm happy!
