Mortal Kombat Movie Franchise To Get The Reboot Treatment?

It seems that New Line Cinema is looking to reboot the 'Mortal Kombat' cinema franchise...

The newest installment has just been announced and will be written by Oren Uziel and directed by Kevin Tancharoen.

Uziel wrote and Tancharoen directed the eight-minute short film "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth", which starred Michael Jai White as Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, Matt Mullins as Johnny Cage, Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion and Lateef Crowder as Baraka. Tancharoen did this to impress Warner Bros. and to prove to them that he could come across as an action director. Warner Games, the company which released the video game reboot in April 2011 didn't like how Tancharoen went behind their backs and used their characters and shut down his project but not before the project leaked online and the studio’s digital division, Warner Premiere, made a deal with him to generate a 10-episode Web series. Those episodes began airing on YouTube in April 2011.

New Lines was happy with what they saw and went to Tancharoen and Uziel and told them they want to reboot the franchise. The studio is keeping the plot under wraps but hopefully we will see a more raw and intense version with the movie leaning toward an "R" rating in the US.

"MORTAL KOMBAAAAAAAAAT!!!!"
