Last episode of Agents of Shield

Hello all,

I just wanted to write about the comclusion of this epic series. Its progression has been phenomenal as we've discovered so much about the characters.

1) Ward was an agent of Hydra.

2) Mai had been in contact with Agent Fury.

3) Skye's parents are monsters, I'd think they are as at the end of this episode, her father appeared to be covered in blood as he comfrotably sat in a dark room.

The concept of this massive organisation supposedly being dead was I think how this episode allows us to learn that the agents of SHIELD weren't agents because they were trained to fight against aliens and other strange phenomena but that they do it because they believe it's the right thing to do.
I really felt that as Coulson and his team busted their way to stopping Garret by literally exploding the building he was in, there was a lot of excitement and new comedy lines in there as Coulson asked his team if they were ready to change the world and then Mai just nonchalantly replied with, 'I just want to kick some ass'.

Honestly, I just howled with laughter once she'd said that and I think that's what makes these characters so engaging because their all so different and they each have their own beliefs but then they come together to protect people and they all have one mission in mind.

A vivid and beautiful highlight of mine was when Simmons and Fitz were at the bottom of the ocean and they were talking about death. Simmons description of how every particle in her body would become a part of another living thing and her energy would pass or be converted into something else was stunningly written.

I found this very endearing and it made me feel less terrified of dying myself. All the little strands came together with Deathlok suddenly deciding to I guess be his own manborg and watch over his son.
Ward was with no surprise taken of to be tortured and massacred. The creative and unique mind of Joss Whedon has I think just given us a taster or a build up of greater stories to come and I cannot wait!

Be a Star - Original WildStar Song

With the amazing new MMO WildStar officially launching Tuesday 3rd June (or Saturday 31st for us with the pre-order headstart!) it seems only fitting that we celebrate it with the amazing original song "Be a Star" by Martyn (Inthelittlewood) from the Yogscast. This brilliant song gives us a little look into the huge host of playable races in the two different factions available.

Magic Monday (On Tuesday): Penny Dreadful Review(So Far...)

Penny Dreadful is Showtimes newest "Horror TV Series" (aptly named after the British serial publications of the 19th century which featured "lurid" and "sensational" stories of fiction for only a penny a piece. One of the most famous being "The String of Pearls: A Romance" which later became famous for the character of Sweeny Todd) which features a host of popular (and public domain) characters from 19th Century Irish and British Gothic Horror's such as Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", Bram Stokers "Dracula" and Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray". Thus far the focal point of the series seems to be that of Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) Murray's  search for his daughter Mina who has been "captured" by an evil creature, along with his long time ally Semblane (Danny Sapani) he has enlisted the help of a powerful and enigmatic medium Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) who then together hire the services of self professed gun slinger Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) and later on Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) with Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney) and Brona Croft (Billie Piper) slowly coming into the fold via Miss Ives and Ethan respectively.

Three episodes in and we're still learning more about the characters, the intensity of one of Miss Ives visions and how terrifying they can be, some hints that Ethan isn't perhaps all he seems, Brona's illness, Malcolm Murray's possible transgressions and my personal favorite, Victor Frankenstein's pursuit of mastering life and death all of which have been capable of supplying us with some rather harrowing scenes. The poetic way in which Victor describes why the science of life and death is more important than any other is nothing short of an intensely beautiful and poetic monologue.

True to the tune of Bram Stoker's Dracula it seems to transpire that Mina has been captured/seduced/turned by the master of the Vampires in London (one would assume this to be Dracula himself?) and the gang are trying to hunt him down and save Mina with plenty of side stories along the way. Although they have made very little progress on their mission, the episodes we've had so far are still engaging and interesting which has the added bonus of really helping to develop ALL of the characters instead of just the main one or two who have actually remained the most mysterious so far (apart form perhaps Semblane who we don't really know anything about yet and so far just seems to be a rather kick ass manservant).

For me this was show was timed perfectly to fit into an empty slot left by the now cancelled TV show Dracula as the day after I finished I dove straight into Penny Dreadful and was certainly not disappointed, if anything this is even more dark and bloody, although sadly features less Johnathan Rhys Meyers and society politics which I became quite addicted to. I will say however that this feels very much like I wanted the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film to feel, albeit it would need to sort out the potential pacing issue but the characters feel more gritty and refined which I think was something the film was sadly missing. Penny dreadful is very hard to explain in any way other than "it's brilliant, go watch it". I think it's a potential marmite show in that I think you'll either absolutely love it or you probably won't really get it and will hate it, either way you owe it to yourself to check it out and give it a chance, especially if it's something you think you might like. Don't take my word for it though, check out the trailer below and see what you think, here's hoping the pacing picks up over the next few episodes though.



P.S Apologies for the Magic Monday becoming a Magic Tuesday again, here in the UK we had a bank holiday that actually had sunshine so I was kidnapped by the inlaws paired up with a stubborn laptop which doesn't like to be left on for two full days!

The Sarah Jane Advenutres- Day of the Clown review

Hello all, 

          Introducing a new main character into the second episode of a new series is a tricky thing to pull off but the team on the SJA created a witty, funny, intelligent, inquisitive and curious character that wouldn't be afraid of the secret world that surrounded her. 
Rani Chandra was her name with the first screen appearance being rather clumsy as she stumbled over Clyde's shoe laces.
I liked this scene between the three of them as there was an instant chemistry between them all that was very enjoyable to watch because as Cylde stood there making jokes, Rani wasn't afraid to speak her mind and Luke stood there rather awkwardly missing Maria.
The villian of this piece was played by the hilarious Bradley Walsh who I've watched on the Chase and it's just really weird to see him being actually quite scary as Odd Bob the clown and the Pied Piper. He inhabits an American accent with a Texas twang that along with his make up redeems him as unlikely but very terrifying with his hiss of a laugh and the way he snatches children by gliding past them has made me wary of clowns.
There was an intelliegent script here as the story delved into Sarah Jane's past and revealed her fear of clowns and if Odd Bob was the same clown that was in her bedroom when she was little then I think she was destined to discover this strange and terrifying world even without the doctor's influence.
Elisabeth Sladen gives a beautiful performance as she realises that her son has been taken by Odd Bob, I really did feel her pain as I watched her expression turn to a cold fear and dread.
Concludingly, I found it fitting that this alien who feeds on fear should rightly be defeated by laughter although I myself didn't find the jokes that funny and I found myself shaking my head as Clyde shot from on to the next.
This is a creative, heart warming, rapid and curious story that does make you question what is fear and how we overcome it.
