Cool Artwork!

Once again I've come across some cool artists and their work over at Deviantart that I just had to share.

Stanlydan, Marciotakara and Cretineb all have some cool and amazing stuff in their galleries and it's all worth a look if you have the time.

I especially love Stanlydan's simple stylised characters from games, movies and T.V. Very funky, and Marciotakara's art is some of the best I've seen in a long while. Cretineb's art is just like Bruce Timm's and in some ways even better... Stunning talents.

Click on the names below to go to their galleries:

The Flash Game That Never Was...

Before the Brash published DC game "The Flash" got cancelled 6 months into production the team had built up a pretty cool basis for an enjoyable looking game.

OK, so the video looks so basic that it could have come from a Snes version, but they were a hell of a long way away from having a completed and polished product ready for a console like the 360.

I think the only Flash game I've ever seen was the Gameboy version I owned a long time ago and I think that if something like this actually got finished I'd probably buy it! Shame.

Enjoy the vid.

Robert Rodriguez's Predators Movie Info

Adrien Brody has been cast by 20th Century Fox to play a heroic mercenary who battles alien hunters in “Predators,” a reboot of the “Predator” franchise that is being creatively spearheaded by Robert Rodriguez.

Brody will star with Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walt Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, and Louiz Ozawa.

Nimrod Antal is directing a film that is about to get underway on location in Hawaii and at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.

Fox has set the film for release July 9, 2010.

The story is said to involve a number of hard arsed individuals who are kidnapped by the Predators, shipped off to an alien planet, dropped off in the middle of a hostile jungle filled with dangerous creatures and then hunted by the Predators who are led by a huge "Super Predator". Each human character will be an expert in some form of combat (hence why they were chosen) and will each bring a unique battle to the movie.

I'd love to see Danny Trejo go toe to toe with a Predator, the man's a legend in his own right!

New Dr. Who Logo

The BBC recently unveiled it's new (but not necessarily improved) Dr. Who logo.

The logo is obviously designed to replicate the Tardis and the title and logo have both been given the new bluey/ purpley hue.

I guess the BBC are going all out to start from scratch with Matt Smith, including changing little things that have been synonymous with the last two (Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant).

We'll see if it all pays off next year!

Rhona Mitra Coming To Stargate Universe!

Yes, it's true, Lara Croft herself is going to appear in SGU's first series...

OK so technically it's not actually Lara but the gorgeous Rhona Mitra who once modelled as her, but still, all the fanboys out there should be pleased.

Rhona will appear in a 3-episode arc at the end of the season, including “Subversion” and the the 2-part season finale, “Incursion.”

She’ll play Kiva, described as “a strong-willed commander of an alien incursion force. Kiva will do whatever it takes to safeguard her people even if it is at the ultimate expense of the Destiny crew.”

The 33-year-old, London-born actress has had recurring roles on Nip/Tuck, Boston Legal, The Practice (as Tara Wilson), Gideon’s Crossing and Party of Five. Her film career includes movies such as Hollow Man, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, The Number 23 and Doomsday.

According to previously released casting documents, Kiva is a commander in the Lucian Alliance — the group which the Destiny crew speculated may have been behind the attack on the Icarus Base in the series premiere, “Air, Part 1.”

How the Lucian Alliance get to the part of the universe that the Destiny is in is anyone's guess but even though there are still people out there not giving this awesome new series a chance, I still have unwavering faith and am loving it!

Dr. Who Spinoff Series "K9" - Trailer

Oh dear God...

First there was Torchwood, then The Sarah Jane Adventures, and now there's "K9 The Series".

As if the news that the annoyingly voiced robot dog is returning for his own series wasn't bad enough, we now have this truly cringe worthy trailer to cement our worst fears that it's going to be a big pile of robo-poo poo...

K-9 is a British/Australian 26-part comedy/adventure series focusing on the adventures of the robot dog K-9 from the television show Doctor Who, achieved by mixing computer animation and live action. It is due for broadcast in early 2010. The series has been made by Jetix Europe and London-based distribution outfit Park Entertainment.

The Posts Are Coming!

Hi there guys and gals!

Unfortunately, as you've seen, it's been a while since I last posted. 12 days ago to be precise...

Over this weekend there will be a barrage of posts coming from me and a couple of other League members which should keep us all going for a while. The London MCM Expo is coming up next weekend so it's unlikely there will be much activity then. I was planning to get a load done today but once again my plans were scuppered by family priorities etc.

Please come back tomorrow afternoon/ evening and you'll find lots of updates!

Views On The New Seasons Of Smallville, Flash Forward & SGU (No Spoilers)

Having watched most of the premiere episodes for a number of T.V. shows over the last week or so I thought I'd post some minor thoughts on 3 of the newest.

Smallville Season 9

When you think about the fact that I'm obsessed with the character of Superman and that this blog is pretty much based around him and the Justice league, it would be easy to think that Smallville would be my favourite show out of everything I watch... Unfortunately at the moment that theory couldn't be farther from the truth.

I've watched the "alternate universe" of Clark Kent's upbringing avidly for the last 8 years but I admit right here and now that the series lost its way a very long time ago. Smallville is a show that has way too many cop-outs, too many rubbish ways of either introducing DC characters or getting rid of them and copping out in the basic execution of those scenes. It's survival is beyond my comprehension when shows like The Unit, Firefly, SG-1, Atlantis, Sarah Connor and many others which I believe are better in almost every way, die by the wayside in unceremonious ways.

Don't get me wrong though, Smallville sometimes has it's moments... It's just that those moments are fleeting and have no further impact on future episodes. It's a show that has throw away scripts that seem to be dreamt up hours before filming starts with many of the actors phoning in their performances just to collect their paychecks at the end of the month. That's a frustrating fact that shouldn't be the case for a show like this.

It's a real shame because the potential for amazing stories based around the plethora of Superman back-catalog characters is wholly untapped. The story themes, either by episode or by season, are getting so diluted now that week on week the audience is hoping, nay praying, that something is going to come along and blow them away... but to no avail.

I really hope that if a tenth season comes along that the writers consider it their last season and get Clark flying and into the old red and blues before it's too late. I know this isn't the point to Smallville, but the original point seems to have gone walkies with no one remembering what it was or where it went. Season 9 has had two episodes so far and neither have been that good in my opinion. It's a bit darker, maybe a bit gorier, a little more adult, but it's a strained series to put it politely. I will still watch it every week regardless... Just because it's Superman...

Flash Forward Season 1

The opening double episode for Flash Forward was something I've been looking forward to for a while. Dark Knight originally made me aware of the series a few months back and from then on I've been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the season premiere to make my judgement call on whether I'll be watching the whole series.

I can safely say that the answer is "yes", I most certainly will be. And it seems the missus will too, she enjoyed it and wants to watch the whole thing. In a world where shows like Heroes and Smallville seem to be getting a little stale, it's good to find that intriguing new shows can still pop up and grab your attention.

Flash Forward has a good workable concept behind it, with an air of true mystery for the audience to go along with, a capable cast to back that all up, a good writing team to flesh the series out in the future and (for now at least) has a real "I want to see what happens next" hook to it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how things pan out and what, or who, created the 2 min 17 sec worldwide blackout where people saw their futures... "Intriguing" is definitely the word for this show!

Stargate Universe Season 1

I know The Dark Knight has already posted about SGU earlier today but I thought I'd give my view regardless.

As you may or may not know; I am a Stargate obsessive. I love pretty much anything to do with Stargate, unconditionally, and have been longing for SGU ever since I first heard of its pending existence. At last years SDCC the hype was incredible and as casting info, images and snippets of news have been released I've gotten more and more hyped as to what we'd be seeing. I admit that when I heard Robert Carlyle would be a main cast member I was put off a bit and my enthusiasm dwindled slightly, but after seeing the initial trailers I was completely sold.

There's been a lot of flack already (and some "it looks too much like Battlestar" comments posted even on here) but after watching the double season opener I admit I was pretty blown away. You may ask "why" as I know you all want to see how it all pans out before you make your own judgments, but I say I was blown away because it's a series so far removed from SG-1 and Atlantis. It's grown up and evolved and has a sense of tension, distrust and stress that I don't think you ever really saw on the two previous shows.

The humour is lacking so far, and maybe that's a good thing. Sure there were the odd moments of geekiness and I've seen that there will be more, mostly from David Blue's character "Eli Wallace" but at the end of the day this is a series spawned from chaos, confusion, loss and fear. Like I said before it's grown up and I think it's obvious that the writers have taken a leaf out of BSG's books... and that's not a bad thing for those that loved BSG like me.

This series has some serious potential for excellent viewing experiences over the course of the first series, but at this point I can't see the future of SGU reaching SG-1, or even Atlantis proportions. It does however fill a much needed void left by other Sci-Fi programmes that have either ended or been cancelled and I'm loving it already. I'll say this for it, there aren't a lot of shows that are able to so perfectly flesh out their characters so quickly as SGU has. That double episode had everything the audience needed to know about who these individual people are and what they're like, so that we can connect and care about them from the get go. When one dies or they screw someone over in an evil way it's going to be effective to say the least. This is probably the show I'm most happy about so far, no big surprise there then!

Watch it when you get the chance!

Transformers 3 - Story Ready & Release Date Set

Just a short post here, but one that has little old me very excited.

Michael Bay has announced that a story is ready for the third Transformers movie and the release date is now scheduled for July the 1st 2011 (not 2012 as announced recently).

This is from Michael's official website:

Well its official: We have a great Transformers 3 story. The release date is now July 1st 2011. Not 2012.

Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters.

P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture. Please consult your Physician when working under my direction because some side effects can occur, such as mild dizziness, intense nausea, suicidal tendencies, depression, minor chest hair growth, random internal hemorrhaging and inability to sleep. As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your Doctor to determine if this is right for you.

Pain and Gain is right after shooting of Trans 3.

Michael

There are a huge amount of Bay/ Transformers movie haters out there but I am certainly not one of them. I love Bay's movies and I love both the Transformers films. They're filled with action, explosions, humour, cool Transformers obviously and Megan Fox... Ah, Megan Fox...

Roll on 2011!

Clash Of The Titans - New Pics

A number of new images have gone up online last week for the new big budget Louis Leterrier remake/ re-imagining of the 1981 movie "Clash of the Titans" starring Sam Worthington as Perseus, Liam Neeson as Zeus and Ralph Fiennes as Hades, among many other famous actors.

The movie is due for release in March 2010. Below are the most recent images. Enjoy!

Oh and in case you're wondering, that is indeed Medusa's head that Perseus is carrying in the bag in the first pic. The second pic's weird looking creature behind Perseus is his sidekick, the wooden warrior Sulieman (Ian Whyte) who is described as this movie's Chewbacca! Looks pretty cool!

50,000 Visits To Kryptonianwarrior.blogspot.com!!!

Whilst I've been adding the various posts today I noticed that the visitors meter on the top right of the main page passed 50,000.

A little landmark occasion for our humble little blog so I'd like to say thanks again to everyone that's visited (and keeps visiting) Kryptonianwarrior.blogspot.com.

It's been a busy and difficult time for a lot of the League that post on here but thank you for guys for being part of the team and contributing to this blog's ongoing content.

I hope everyone out there likes what you're reading and the invitation is always open to not only comment on the posts but to join the team should you want to.

I haven't managed to find the time to write anything for Geek-Gamer yet but I have some time off now so I'll be doing that very soon. Bare with me, I have a lot to write!

For now I give you thanks for visiting the blog... 77 of you have visited whilst I've been typing this post! Almost 4000 this week... Cool!

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson In Tooth Fairy...

Here's what I've been talking about... The Rock in Tooth Fairy. Grrrrrrrrr...

A-Team Movie - New Pics Of The Cast On Set

Woo hoo! Now The new A-Team movie is one film that I'm genuinely looking forward to.

I was a huge A-Team fan back in the 80's... still am today (watched a bit on telly earlier in fact!) and I can't wait to see official cast pics or a trailer. I posted the new pics of the updated A-Team van a week or so ago but there weren't any of the main cast.

Although there's nothing from the actual studios yet we'll all have to make do with these new rough on set images taken the other day. Can't wait!

The Green Hornet - New On Set Pics

I seem to be having a lot of negative thoughts towards a number of upcoming projects lately. It seems to be simply based on the little I've seen up online. One such object of my disaffection is "Green Hornet", the new comic hero movie starring Seth Rogen in the lead role.

I originally liked the thought of this film, but after seeing the odd few pics (below) I've lost the initial geeky excitement. No real idea why.

Maybe it's because the costumes don't seem to have been updated since the original T.V. series (and look cheap), maybe it's because, no matter how hard I try, I just can't like Seth Rogan enough... Maybe it's because I've never watched, read, or had any history with the character at all.

Anyway, here are the first few on set pics to whet your appetites courtesy of Splashnewsonline...

The Phantom SyFy T.V. Series Trailer... WTF?

I was excited about a new Phantom series when I first blogged about it a while back. I was even looking forward to seeing the new costume designs in the flesh, showing a new funkier look to the "Ghost Who Walks", but alas the whole thing now looks like a pile of stinking donkey crap and the outfit looks bloody terrible... Just my opinion, but I believe it's a sound one!

Here's the trailer. See what you think...

Mel Gibson - Images From "The Beaver"

Oh dear God... are Mel Gibson's glory days in the Lethal Weapon and Mad Max movies all but forgotten now?

The other day I posted about Dwaye "The Rock" Johnson appearing in the potential crapfest that is "Tooth Fairy", and now Mr. Gibson is set to start in a Jodie Foster directed movie called "The Beaver".

The Beaver is a film about Walter (Mel Gibson), a troubled father and husband and CEO of a stalling toy company [who gives voice to] The Beaver, a glove puppet that Walter finds, starts to wear continuously, and adopts as a kind of avatar through which he carries out all of his communication. Almost all of the dialogue given to the lead actor throughout the entire screenplay will have to come from the Beaver, and be delivered in what screenwriter Kyle Killen describes as a "crisp English accent."

Here are 3 images from the movie showing Mel and his Beaver... That sounds sooooo wrong...

Primeval T.V. Show Saved From Extinction!

Being the very big fan of Primeval that I am I was pleased to hear that three months after ITV canceled the show, BBC America and U.K. pay channel UKTV/ Watch are rescuing it from extinction.

Impossible Pictures will make another two series totaling 13 episodes.

Under the new funding arrangements, BBC Worldwide, responsible for licensing the show to around 45 countries, replaces ITV as the program's biggest investor.

Meanwhile, BBC America, which airs Primeval in the U.S., has joined Germany's ProSieben as a co-production partner on the show.

As part of the deal, ITV will premiere the fourth season of the show in early 2011, while UKTV premieres the fifth season later the same year. It should be shown in the U.S. shortly after.

I know there are a lot of Primeval haters out there who think the series is complete cack and not worth their time, but I'm a huge fan and am really happy to see it return... And to see the searingly hot Hannah Spearitt and Laila Rouass back of course!

Nightmare On Elmstreet - New Movie Teaser Trailer

So the new Nightmare on Elmstreet movie is on its way is it? I can't say that I'm interested in this at all, being a horror movie hater, but I know a few people out there that can't wait to see if this can bring old Freddy back to life in movie theatres for a new generation.

Here's the recent movie teaser trailer to give you an idea of what's coming your way in April 2010.

Movie & T.V. News From The Dark Knight (Some Spoilers)

A Dark Knight Post

SGU : Dark Knight's verdict.

I just watched the first 90 minutes of the new STARGATE franchise.............and quite frankly I don't know what to say.

Other than it ROCKED!!!!!!!!! It had everything you could want from a new sci fi series.....action, space battles, Richard dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, and enough STARGATE related stuff to keep everyone happy. Well I'm sure they'll be a few people that'll make sh**ty comments about some slightly wooden acting from some of the cast and a lack of humour, BUT THEY'RE ON A SPACESHIP WHICH IS FALLING APART AND THEY MIGHT DIE!!!! Humour is the last thing on their minds.

Now then, "what WAS wrong with it" I hear you cry. Well, I didn't have too much of a problem with anything at all. Eli WALLACE ( David BLUE) gave a shot of funny into his acting (as well as some very serious acting moments as well....not seen him in much but seems to be a good actor), but there was a lack of the pop culture references that made SG-1 and ATLANTIS so grounded in our reality.........I'm sure that this will come along as I recall seeing Eli making STAR WARS references on a trailer when the ship arrives at an ice planet "LOOKS LIKE WE'VE ENTERED THE HOTH SYSTEM.".

One thing that I'm sure will make headlines (in the SCI FI mags anyway) is the inclusion of a rather racy sex scene. Now it's not like there's t**s and ass out and about, but you do see Lt SCOTT ( Brain J SMITH) and another female SG member going at it against a wall. Hey people, we've all seen it before so no need to make such a thing about it!!!!

SPOILERS...sorta. Well Lou Diamond PHILLIPS didn't appear for long. He appears for about a minute in total. Kinda a waste of a pretty good actor. The Lucian alliance make a rather bland appearance, but who else is gonna turn up and take on the USS HAMMOND (under the command of the gorgeous Amanda TAPPING - loving the long brown hair on Sam Carter) bearing in mind the GOA'ULD are long gone, the ORI are toast and the WRAITH are kinda battered and bruised as well.

It kept me gripped and happy for 90 minutes, and at the final scene left me begging for more. SY FY, I think I love you and might just forgive you for taking BATTLESTAR away from me!!!!!

JUST IN!!!!!!!!

Just read a quick review (and I use the term review loosely) on Tv.spreadit.org and already the hating has started. They posted a paragraph to make some crap comment about SGU being a combination of SG-1, ATLANTIS, and the animated STARGATE INFINITY. Well if they want to take all the good bits from their previous shows I don't see a problem. SGU is based in the same universe (kinda) and features the SGC and their back story, so it is gonna be familiar and have some of the same things. GROW UP GUYS AND GIVE IT A CHANCE.

Rock on episode 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Miss this at your peril.

***************

I can smell another fan campaign starting.

I have just braved the media backlash about DEFYING GRAVITY and sat through the 8 aired episodes. What did you think, I hear you cry. Well, I loved it.....hand on heart, I thought it was honest, well acted, funny and just plain brilliant.

This seems to be contrary to the public opinion of most, but I have already seen the fan campaign to keep it going. Although I have also seen that ABC HAVE NOT cancelled the series at this stage, they've just taken it off to find a better placement for it on their schedule. OK, this doesn't sound promising, but it's better than the reports that it had been canned and wasn't even going to complete the first season of 13 episodes.

The cast are awesome............I love Christina COX (seen her in person and she is as hot as she looks!) who is a genre favourite having appeared in BLOOD TIES, ATLANTIS, and other genre products. Ron LIVINGSTON is funny as hell as the sarcastic MADDUX DONNER, and Paula GARCES and Laura HARRIS also add a bit of sex appeal to the show.

For those of you that haven't seen the show here it is in a nut shell. 8 astronauts are flying around the solar system of the ANTARES spaceship on a seemingly harmless mission to forward human science and understanding of the planets. Little do they know that there is an artifact simply called BETA that is giving them their actual agenda for the mission, collecting other artifacts from each planet in the solar system. No one knows why, but this is something they'll have little choice about as BETA is pulling all the strings by giving the crew nightmares that end when the wake up.

I can hear everyone saying, "WHAT A BORING CONCEPT" but this is filled with back story, flashbacks and some great acting from everyone involved. It's moved the show into a great direction, but will ABC crumble and fill out airwaves with more cheap "reality TV" shite??? Probably, so enjoy it while you can.....and if you love it email ABC and tell them, or find one of the many petitions and put down your name.

**************

SUPERNATURAL IS BACK!

Yes it is, and with 4 episodes in it seems to be on great form to reach the genre halls of fame. Not many shows actually let the apocalypse happen and stay around to kick the four horsemen of the apocalypse back to hell ( the last show to hint at this was the great ANGEL, but they didn't get a fair shot at kicking mega butt!!)

The best moment by far is when Dean tries to get CASTIEL (Misha COLLINS) laid in a brothel...........gotta love those fallen angels.

Get watching this great show.

*************

GAMER??? GAME OVER.

I watched this movie the other day..........kinda wish I hadn't. Started with promise, but ended up with a mish-mash of weird shite and a poor ending. Watch the trailer (you see all the best bits) and save yourself the admission fee!!!

*************

BECKINSALE..........I LOVE YOU.

Check these out........I think the loverly KATE has my vote for hottest SCI FI vixen of FOREVER!!!!!!!!

If you really wanna see something check out this video from KATE'S photo shoot for ESQUIRE
