Movie And TV News Roundup Of The Week - MEGAPOST

Here's this week's entertainment news! Enjoy!

Woody Harrelson Playing Carnage In Venom Movie?

The new Venom movie starring Tom Hardy in the lead role doesn't seem to have good vibes going for it at the moment. News broke last week that we probably won't actually get to see much "Venom" in the film, which was probably apparent from the mediocre trailer which was panned pretty hard, but rumours then came out that actor Woody Harrelson may have been cast as Carnage, the vicious and deadly Spider-Man comics villain. IMDB has his name up, but not who he's playing, so we'll have to wait and see if Woody is indeed Carnage and whether or not this another Sony-Marvel cock-up of a film.

The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle Voice Cast Announced

Honestly I didn't know there was a new Doctor Dolittle film being made but recently Robert Downey Jr. put this picture up on social media showing and announcing the all-star voice cast. Downey confirmed that he will play the title character of Dolittle in he movie. He will be joined by Rami Malek as Chee-Chee the gorilla, Octavia Spencer as Dab-Dab the duck, Kumail Nanjiani as Plimpton the ostrich, John Cena as Yoshi the polar bear, Marion Cotillard as Tutu the fox, Carmen Ejogo as Regine the Lioness, Craig Robinson as Fleming the mouse, Frances de la Tour as Ginko-Who-Soars, Tom Holland as Jip the dog, Emma Thimpson as Polynesia the parrot, Selena Gomez as Betsy the giraffe and Raplh Fiennes as Barry the tiger... Whew. The movie is set for an April 2019 release.

The Last Starfighter Getting A Reboot/Sequel?

Holy Jesus am I an avid fan of the 1984 movie "The Last Starfighter"! I used to watch that film so much when I was younger and loved the storyline of a boy playing an arcade game that gets him whisked off to the stars to battle in an alien war. Now Gary Whitta, the screenwriter behind Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Book of Eli, has announced on Twitter that he is working with co-writer Jonathan Betuel, who wrote the original movie, on a reboot of the sci-fi cult classic. Whitta shared concept art for the project, created by Matt Allsopp, which you can view below. Now I have to also point out that he answered a fan who asked why it was a reboot and not a sequel by saying "who said it's a reboot", so we're unclear at this point whether it's one or the other. But I can't wait for this. Here's the artwork:

Doctor Strange Sequel Will Get Both Nightmare And Baron Mordo As Villains

During a Q&A in Austin, Texas, the co-writer for the film, C. Robert Cargill, revealed details about a possible sequel. While Marvel hasn’t officially announced the sequel Cargill and Scott Derrickson have plans for the 2nd film. They plan on including Nightmare as the film’s main villain. Cargill stated very definitively that “Nightmare will be the villain”.

Nightmare is often seen as a demon and the ruler of the Dream Dimension. Along with near omnipotence, he has the ability to draw power from the psychic energies from dreaming beings. Cargill also discussed their plans for Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo, saying that he has a specific arc and will be the second villain, being almost like Loki from the Thor and Avenger films, being seen in multiple films.

Karl Urban Cast As Billy Butcher In Amazon's Adaptation Of "The Boys"

Karl Urban has become synonimous with geeky films so it's not surprise that he's been cast in Amazon's The Boys. Urban, who has appeared in such movies as THE LORD OF THE RINGS, THE BOURNE SUPREMACY, STAR TREK, DREDD, and THOR: RAGNAROK, will be jumping back to the small-screen in the upcoming series based upon the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

The Boys is et in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame with the series revolving around a group of vigilantes who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with little more than blue-collar grit and the willingness to fight dirty. Karl Urban is set to play Billy Butcher, the mysterious and brutal leader of The Boys who carries a personal but secret agenda. Butcher approaches Hughie (Jack Quaid), claiming to be a shadowy government operative. Capitalising on Hughie’s rage over his girlfriend Robin’s accidental death at the hands of Superhero A-Train (Jesse T. Usher), Butcher enlists Hughie as part of his plan to bring down the Superhero franchise. Eric Kripke (Supernatural) will write the series as well as serve as show-runner, with the pilot set to be directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (Preacher). Karen Fukuhara (SUICIDE SQUAD), Erin Moriarty (True Detective), Antony Starr (Banshee), Dominique McElliogott (Hell on Wheels), and Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) will also star in The Boys.

Y The Last Man TV Show Headed To FX

FX Networks has ordered a pilot for Y The Last Man, based on the acclaimed post-apocalyptic science fiction comic book series (which I read all of and loved).

All of the men are dead. But one, and his monkey. Based on the DC comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y traverses a world of women — exploring gender, race, class and survival.

The show has some good names behind its creation with Michael Green (American Gods, Blade Runner 2049, Logan) and Aida Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Turn) will serving as Co-Showrunners and Executive Producers along with Matsoukas (Insecure, Master of None, Beyonce: Formation), Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force (American Crime Story, Pose, The Hunger Games) and Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Marvel’s Runaways, Saga), who have been working together to develop the series.

I used to watch the original series when I lived in Hong Kong as a kid, but oh dear, this reboot looks painfully bad!
