Doctor Who Listen Review

Hello and thank you for reading my review of the latest Doctor Who episode written by Steven Moffet- Listen.
One of the main elements that I thought made this story one of the most unique in terms of the basis of the episode is concentrated on the Doctor's psychology and his own fears.
As a fan into the intricate threads of the Doctor's mind I rolled around with a look of joy on my face when I absorbed myself into this story.
What I love about Steven Moffet's writing is that he takes the most ordinary thoughts and fears of us all and twists and moulds into in a frenzy of disturbing and terrifyingly stories that dig into the characters lives.
Alongside the Doctor theorising and frowning at the invisible and if at all real creature was Clara's romantic liasion with the Mr Pink.
I find Danny a very peculiar and fascinating man and find his and Clara's first date to be really funny and quietly beautiful in the midst of the Doctor popping up all over the place.
Also, I would like to highlight on the Doctor and Clara's relationship in this episode as feeling like the doctor wants so desperately to protect her and the special scenes of the doctor standing in Clara's bedroom after her hideously awkward date a rare but cherishable relationship that is so strange and wonderful that I never want it to end... which it will I'm guessing probably very soon.... great.
Anyway moving on, I think what was really interesting about Listen was how Clara will have to deal with the realisation that she's just met the younger version of her date and majorly influenced him to become a soldier. Timey wimey I'll bet.
But what was a complete shocker was we got to see a smidge for the first time ever (I think) of the doctor as a child and finally discovering why the War Doctor decided to travel to a barn in the middle of almost nowhere. Thank you Steven for relieving me of that burden.
It was so intelligent of him to complete that story of Clara being the person who instigated those fears into the doctor and to influence his decision to go back to the barn in the 50th anniversary.
That raises the question; did the creature in this story actually exist? Well, I think it did because the doctor wasn't the only one who saw the mysterious being and Clara also heard the knocking coming from the other side of the locked door at the end of the universe.
Similiar to Midnight, I like the uncertainty and creepiness that we never get to actually see the creature or find out what it was, where it came from and what it wanted.
The direction of was thrilling and creative, the story sublime and the script was plotted cleverly, there was warmth, hilarity, darkness, mystery and magnificence in the Doctor's thoughts and his interaction with Clara. One of the best!!

Doctor Who Robot of Sherwood Review

Hello Whovians,

One of the magical ingredients of Doctor Who is that the tone, style, story and characters change so vividly and rapidly each week.
And this week was one of warmth, comedy, archery competitions and a fictional character- Robin Hood!
I have to admit I haven't really seen much of Robin Hood or know much about him so this episode really helped me to understand who he is and why he's such a legend in the storytelling universe.
Casually, this story begins with the doctor asking Clara where she would like to go and then completely dismisses her in pure Capaldi brilliance.
Here comes the TARDIS landing in Sherwood Forest and is greeted by an arrow puncturing the blessed time machine.
I loved the contrast in tone from last week because in every series you want a mix of different stories which each individual can enjoy and pick as their favourite.
Blatantly, the doctor spends the majority of his time agreeing with Robin and disbelieving that he is indeed real.
This was where the immense comedy factor resided and I found their relationship very refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable.
Clara to me felt like the one to save the day as her characteristics of taking the lead and making the doctor follow her really expanded her character even further and her genuine admiration for Robin was really sweet and absorbing in terms of how cute she was around him.
Peter Capaldi continued to push his version of the doctor into new territory and how his reactions and relationships with the people around him are I feel were very unpredictable which at some moments are really scary which I like.
In addition, I don't think the story was the main focus for this episode but obviously the structure and quality has to be maintained which it does clearly because I was constantly thinking which characters were the robots and which were real.
Also, the doctor's conversation with Robin at the end of the story was very enlightened and I felt like Robin taught the doctor something and proudly expressed his acceptance of not knowing whether he was real and admitting he wasn't a hero.
Relating to this, I believe the main point of this story was not only to throw a lot of laughs but to delve into the doctor questioning whether he thinks he is a hero or not which in this instance we don't really discover.
This was the right decision because I don't think a real hero would ever fully accept that they were a hero because otherwise they wouldn't do the things that they do to be the hero so I applaud Mark Gatiss for exploring this piece of the Doctor's character whilst injecting a dose of fairytales, wildly strange characters and an intelligent but not to selfish plotline.
Now let's listen.........

Doctor Who Into the Dalek review

The next instalment of series 8 continues with a really fascinating and complex Dalek story which grated at the questions of Dalek morality and the question of can these creatures ever possess any emotion apart from hate and by the conclusion of this episode the answer is yes and no.
Ultimately, when the doctor's mind combines with the Dalek's the Dalek clings onto the Doctor's hatred for the Daleks which fires the Dalek into exterminating his own kind. It raised a complicated question of the Dalek telling the doctor that he is a good dalek made me think about whether I thought this was true or not, and to an extent I did because everytime the Daleks have turned up the doctor has shown a rage and fire within him always leads to them being blown up.
However, other occasions we have seen the doctor try to give the Daleks another option other than dying to which they have always unsurprisngly declined which has led to the Doctor destroying them.
I commend Phil Ford and Steven Moffet for delving deeper into the very depths of a Dalek and allowing the viewer to think about what makes a Dalek and their relationship with the doctor.
Now there wasn't only the Daleks in this episode, oh no there was the introduction of Danny Pink.
I loved the quick transistions that Clara had to make from being in a school cupboard to then being minituarised and placed inside the most deadliest creature in the universe was something so unique to Who it just reminded me of what a life it could be.
I enjoyed getting to know Danny and a bit about his history and personality without feeling like his character was misplaced in the story.
Peter's doctor continued to intrigue and scare me at his dark, brass and moody incarnation as a clear statement of 'I'm the doctor and I am brilliant'.
I like how he switches from being quite rude and harsh to the next making a pun and hoping someone laughs.
Visually, I was so impressed by the different creative effects that were inccorporated in this episode for instance when the doctor and Clara are entering the Dalek and you get this kind of blue haze that makes them all distorted and watery was really something exciting.
An imaginative, striking, fast, comical, dramatic and fascinating story!

Doctor Who Deep Breath review

Finally, after waiting all these weeks and months it is here; the new doctor with a Scottish accent, grey hair and impressive eyebrows- this is truly the doctor 100%
I think to have the series begin with a dinosaur rampaging down the thames can sum up the show in that first scene to anyone new.
I love how this show constantly surprises its fans and the TARDIS certainly being vomited out of the dinosaurs mouth was a bonkers progression but one that I thought was just a statement saying 'this is the doctor and these are the things that happen'.
Continuing on from this, I think it was right for Clara to be seen differently and respond differently towards the doctor that has a little more sparkiness to it that isn't all that playful. I believe the audience needs to see an emotional range of her character and see her change along with this new version of her friend.
The dialogue that extrudes from Peter's doctor was delightful and uniquely strange in the way he executed it with his hand movements and those almighty facial expressions.
Another delightful aspect to the new series was seeing the Paternoster gang again and gladly finding that Steven Moffet decided to give them stories and an evolution if you like in terms of their relationships with one another.
They are a real credit to the show and an inspiration because they can teach younger fans that there doesn't have to be boundaries when it comes to relationships and in particular Madame Vastra and Clara's rather heated argument was so vibrant and thought provoking because it allowed you to see how Vastra feels about how some humans treat her differently and her judgement of Clara.
Everyone's performance was sublime with an immense amount of energy and craft being absorbed into the characters and thier history.
The length of time didn't bother me whatsoever because it meant more Doctor who all at once which is just fabulous.
After watching it for a second time, I managed to understand what was being said without my dogs barking which allowed me to lent myself to the story and realise that the villains of this piece was the creepy Clockwork droids from the girl in the fireplace which made me very nostalgic.
Additionally, I love how the threads of the story came together beautifully and meant you could understand the story without missing out on this new and intriguing doctor.
The tone was admittedly a lot darker because it begged a question of did the doctor actually murder the half face man or maybe let him fall or manipulated him into falling.... who knows.
This new character of Missy was very strange and invoking especially when she snapped like a dog and started to dance manically around the gardens of Heaven.
I congratulate Steven, Peter, Jenna, Neve, Catrin, Dan and to everyone who contributed to the making on this subliminal piece of storytelling.
