If you prefer Stephanie Brown.. Clap your hands.

Hello Redsunimites, apologies that I haven't updated on this blog for a while.. I guess the comic strip thing of the week went bust.. so I guess I will try my hardest to make up for that by updating you guys alot in the following week. I mean 'Alot!'

I don't know about you guys, but if you like reading DC comics and probably read them before the New 52 (If not scroll of my post) then does Mr Micro Marvel have somthing special for you... Well at least if your favorite Batgirl was Stephanie Brown.

But before I go on I would just like to specify why this may be a good.. or bad idea..depends really.

What I am talking about a comic book character that has lead to many debates of who the greatest Batgirl has been. It seems since the new 52 she has not been seen due to Barbara Gordon getting up from her wheel chair. When asked questions by fans at the panels during conventions, the DC comics employee's usually come out with an unspecified answer. It was rumoured before that she would have a one shot in the continuity of the Smallville season 11 comic book as a female 'Nightwing' Alas poor Stephanie was again shunned as she was replaced within the final decisions by Barbara Gordon.. Again! It is said that DC just keeps slapping the Steph fans in the face.

bottem shows an image of what Stephanie 'Would of looked like, on the tophere is Barbara Gordon with Batman on the episode "Detective" in Smallville season 11.

Since pre The new 52 many movement's petitions and even fandom based media has started (That's right, The fans have taken Stephanie into their own hands). One of the biggest movements is "Waffles for Steph" Which is a campaign were every year, on (August the 10th, Which is the date of Stephanie's last appearance) send Waffles to DC HQ. Why Waffles?: As quoted  "Waffles. [A] new way of bonding…” To borrow some words from some fellow supporters, throughout the book waffles appear symbolizing, as the quote says, bonding. In fact, the first time we see Stephanie out of costume, her mother is giving her waffles for breakfast.  Which was mentioned in her first issue.

Here is a video from one of the sponsors from the movement on why DC should bring back Stephanie Brown.
Now.. Here is something that I can say as a Stephanie Brown fan made me proud and also how awesome the community is. This is a web series accounted for, produced and created by an independent video company that is not affiliated with DC comics in any way, but they figured if DC keeps rejecting Stephanie and has no use for her in anyway then they will make up a web series for her community. This web series is called Batgirl: Spoiled which follows Stephanie Brown as Batgirl following the events after her breakup with her partnership with Batman. So it basically follows the story pre new 52.  The series is produced by both Marisha Ray (who plays batgirl) and Sax Carr (one of the writers). The series is about Stephanie finding her place as her own individual hero persona in Gotham City. By that because she never had a dark personality like the Batman or any of the Robins or other Batgirl's. In fact she was more of a lively comedic robin/Batgirl who was like a mother figure to Batman who only looked for acceptance from Batman as she saw him as an inspiration,  the way I see her as the Harlequin of the Bat family. Below Is the teaser trailer for the series, You may also recognise a few familiar faces.

Thats me for this one fans!..  Adiós! and see you again real soon.

Delicious Deviant Artist #7

It was really hard to pick who out of my line-up I was going to feature this week as Delicious Deviant Artist, but after much deliberation, I’ve chosen to bring you the artwork of Eltis.

The first image I want to show you features a much more mature Miss Martian than I’m used to.  When I think of Miss Martian, I think Young Justice, so a cheerful, optimistic young woman with a cute haircut and freckles on her face normally comes to mind straight away, which means that seeing Miss Martian as she’s drawn above, is a little bit of a shock.  That’s not a bad thing though.  I love the painted style and the seriousness in Miss Martian’s expression, as I said before it brings her maturity that really suits her.  She’s still a beauty, we may have moved away from “cute” but she’s still pretty in a commercial way.  I also like the fact the green of her skin is rather faded, it makes her look a lot more realistic, it’s not so harsh as the bright green normally used for DC Martians.

The fact that Eltis has left the background so simple makes Miss Martian stand out beautifully and she instantly caught my eye as I was browsing through the full gallery.

For those of you that followed the cartoon series Avatar - The Legend of Aang/Last Airbender, but haven’t yet watched Legend of Korra, I highly recommend it.

I’m moving away from comic book geekery a bit here but I feel it’s well deserved with this image and the one to follow.  In the above picture we have the main character from the latest Avatar series, this is Korra, the avatar.  Her character is captured really well here, she looks just as stubborn and determined as she is in the show and the lighting in this is incredible.  One half bright, one half extremely dark, I’m not sure whether Eltis was aiming to reflect the show with one image, but she really has.  There is a very dark side to the show that cause Korra immense trouble and you can really feel it lurking in the shadows here.

Sailor Moon.  I’m not sure I even know anyone that hasn’t at least heard of her.  Okay she’s a manga and anime character, but she’s the best known Magical Girl character I can think of, she saves the world all the time and this picture is amazing, so I’m featuring it!

She’s posed as though she’s just finished her Magical Girl transformation and she’s making her cute little speech to the bad guy, but her face says she’s super serious and totally ready to kick some major butt.  I love that, the image manages to combine her childish nature with her more responsible identity and it’s done so well.

With the re-make of the Sailor Moon cartoon so close now I felt it was about time I used her as a top 3 feature at last, and I’m glad I chose this picture to do so, it’s breath taking.

If you liked any of the art featured above, you can check out Eltis’s Deviant Art gallery here, there's a lot more to look forward to there and I’ll bring you another fabulous artist next Thursday!

DOES SGU FINALLY HAVE AN END?

I am in total awe, shock and amazement that these online scripts are so totally brilliant.....I will stress that these are fan made, not official and totally 100% awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Follow the link and you should be able to download the 8 scripts and find out how author Laurence Moroney has decided SGU should end. From the quality of the writing and the understanding of the characters and science behind the show, these could easily be transferred to screen without problems.

This is how the show should have ended and what could have made an explosive end to the great, but short lived series.

Laurence MORONEY, I salute you sir for giving SGU the ending it deserved. READ THESE BEFORE THE GO!!!!!!!

Find the scripts at Laurence Moroney’s website: http://www.philotic.com/stargate/

R.I.P. Jerry Nelson

Jerry Nelson, Muppeteer of such beloved characters as Count von Count (Sesame Street) and Gobo Fraggle (Fraggle Rock) passed away on August 23rd 2012 :(

Nelson started his run on Sesame Street, beside Jim Henson and Frank Oz, with several major roles. Sherlock Hemlock (1970 - 1995, 2010), The Amazing Mumford (1971-2012) and Herry Monster (1970-2012), to name a few. His biggest and possibly most loved role, however, was the marvellous vampire we all know and love, Count von Count (1972-2012).

Jerry Nelson was also the first puppeteer to perform Mr. Snuffleupagus, holding the role from 1971 to 1978. Nelson had to give the role up;  "I was not loathe to give that character up. But the reasons for giving it up were because at that time we were doing The Muppet Show and he was a real part of the show, and they needed his presence. So they asked if I’d mind giving it up.".

Nelson's more minor, yet recurring characters include Herbert Birdsfoot (1970-1973), Simon Soundman (1971-1992), Frazzle (1971-2012), Mr. Johnson (1971-2012), Little Jerry of the band 'Little Jerry And The Monotones' (1970-2000) and most of the announcers that appear in the Sesame Street sketches (1970-2012).

Jerry also performed a variety of characters on The Muppet Show, including Sgt. Floyd Pepper, Dr. Julius Strangepork (Pigs In Space), Lew Zealand, Robin The Frog (Kermit's cousin), Camilla The Chicken and the Phantom of the Muppet Show, Uncle Deadly. He also played Statler in the pilot episodes, but dropped the role when he could not perform full time on the first season. However, he was selected to play Statler after Richard Hunt's passing. He also originated the role of Fozzie Bear's mother in Series 2 of The Muppet Show and reprised the role repeatedly in features such as A Muppet Family Christmas and The Muppets At Walt Disney World.

On Fraggle Rock, Nelson performed Gobo Fraggle, Pa Gorg and Marjory The Trash Heap. Frank Oz did not perform on Fraggle Rock and both Jim Henson and Richard Hunt limited their time on the show, only performing supporting characters, hence Nelson being asked to perform Gobo, the main role.

Nelson's characters were usually singers or musicians. He performed the lead vocals for many songs as Floyd of 'The Electric Mayhem', Little Jerry of 'Little Jerry And The Monotones', Slim Wilson of 'Lubbock Lou And His Jughuggers' and a number of Anything Muppet bands. Most of his main characters in all three shows sang songs at one time or another.

Jerry Nelson reprised his role of the announcer in 2011's The Muppets. His final role as the announcer was part of the Jim Henson's Musical World concert at Carnegie Hall.

Nelson announced his retirement from puppeteering in 2004, due to health issues, yet continued to voice his characters right up until his unfortunate death. Jerry Nelson passed away on August 23rd 2012, due to complications from the various cancers and respiratory diseases from which he suffered in his later years. He had also been a long-time sufferer of emphysema.

Jerry Nelson, I salute you. Thankyou for bringing my childhood to life and teaching me maths better than anyone else ever could, in a more entertaining and beautiful way than anyone else ever could. You were a wonderful human being who injected a soul into our favourite and most beloved characters.
Rest In Peace.
