Simon Pegg - 2 New Movies In The Works

Being the huge fan of Simon Pegg, and his work, that I am (I've met the guy twice, Shaun of the Dead is probably my favourite film and Space rocks!) I'm pleased to find out that he's releasing two new geekish movies in the not too distant future.

First off is "Paul" (my own first name so that's even cooler) a film set for release in 2010 with Pegg and Nick Frost (gotta love Nick too!) playing Graham and Clive, respectively – two British geeks on a pilgrimage to the San Diego Comic-Con who pick up an alien while travelling across the Midwest in a hired RV.

Second, and probably more importantly, is the third movie in a cycle to have Pegg and Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) collaborating again with the provisionally titled "World's End". No date has been set for this one but both this and Paul are set to be bigger than Shaun and Fuzz put together so Pegg claims, which really is something to look forward to.

Thor Animated Series To Follow 2010 Movie

After acquiring my Thor Hasbro Mighty Mugg today (along with many others that are making my wallet scream for mercy) it seemed fitting to report that Marvel Animation is developing and self-producing a 26 half-hour episode series based on its long-running comic book "Thor," with the series targeted to launch in fall 2010, following Marvel's live-action feature Thor, which hits theaters on July 16, 2010.

The animated series will follow Thor, the Norse god of thunder, as he defends his mythical home of Asgard against fantastical villains, fiendish hordes, winged creatures and angry giants. The show will take place in various worlds -- from mountainous landscapes to places of icy mists and fiery voids -- and will include many of the comic's supporting cast, including Balder the Brave, the Warriors Three and Thor's evil adopted brother, Loki.

Marvel president of animation Eric Rollman said the series is part of the company's plan to follow each live-action movie with an animated series and "offer a continued awareness in the marketplace." (Source: Hollywood Reporter)

Another great addition to my ever-growing Mighty Mugg collection!

The Day The Earth Stood Still - New Trailer With Gort!

What's the one thing in the original movie from 1951 that stood out more than anything else? Answer: GORT.

That large chrome-domed cyclops that resembled a futuristic harbinger of doom is back and looking more intimidating than ever in this years remake. Sadly lacking any inclusion in the first teaser trailer, Gort now has a tiny bit more trailer time to appease fans. For those of you who have been looking forward to this re-make of The Day The Earth Stood still, here are two stills (above) taken directly from the new trailer below. I'm a little apprehensive about this film, but with Jennifer Connelly (whom I love to bits) and some promising si-fi'ish action (notice I left out Keanu here) it could be a surprise hit for 2008.

"Kick-Ass" Movie - First pictures

If you're a true comic fan you should have come across Kick-Ass by now, and if you're a fan of Kick-Ass then you should know that it's currently being made into a movie. Now if only they adapted Invincible... that would be something!

Kick-Ass is an ongoing, creator-owned, American comic book series written by Mark Millar and illustrated by John Romita, Jr and is published by Marvel Comics under the company's Icon imprint. It dramatically satirizes comic book tropes and superhero conventions.

Kick-Ass Synopsis:

Dave Lizewski, an otherwise ordinary New York City high school student and the child of a loving single father, takes his interest in comic books as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. He assembles a suit and mask, which he wears under his normal clothing, begins exercising, and practices things like walking on roofs, sating his ambitions for a time. He eventually seeks to fight crime, his first attempt at which leads to a severe beating and stabbing by thugs, followed by his wandering into the street and being hit by a car.He retains his secret identity, however, stripping off and hiding his costume before paramedics arrive.

Telling his father he was mugged, he undergoes intense physical rehabilitation, including four operations. He is released weeks later, and as soon as he is off crutches dons the suit once more and goes on patrol. When he saves a man from a beating,an onlooker catches the scene on a cellphone camera and uploads it to YouTube, turning Lizewski into an overnight sensation christened with the name Kick-Ass.

In school, the mugging excuse used to cover up his bruises spawns rumors Lizewski is a gay prostitute. Believing them, his longtime crush, Katie Deauxma, adopts him as a "gay best friend". Lizewski goes along with this in an effort to spend time with her. His father, worried about him, gives him a can of police-issue pepper-spray for protection.

As Kick-Ass, Lizewski sets up a MySpace account, so people can contact him for help. The first such request he investigates leads him to an apartment of violent lowlifes who try to kill him. He is rescued by a costumed young girl wielding a sword, who kills all the attackers and then leaves to join a grown man she calls Big Daddy, and who calls her Hit-Girl.The two disregard Lizewski and drive away. Lizewski later learns the police attribute the deaths to a criminal "turf war"; he also discovers online that Kick-Ass has inadvertently inspired a new subculture of people dressed in makeshift, original superhero costumes.

Kick-Ass Movie:

A film version, in pre-production as of May 2008, was fully financed by Matthew Vaughn's MARV Films, written by Vaughn and Jane Goldman, and directed by Vaughn. The Hollywood Reporter gave the financed amount as $30 million, while Millar updated the figure to $65 million.

Aaron Johnson has been cast as the main character Dave Lizewski. Nicolas Cage will play a former cop who, in his quest to bring down an evil drug lord played by Mark Strong, has trained his 11-year-old daughter to be the ruthless vigilante Hit Girl, being played by Chloƫ Moretz. Lyndsy Fonseca has been cast Lizewski's crush, Katie Deauxma. Christopher Mintz-Plasse has been cast as a nemesis named the Red Mist. Series creator Mark Millar, a native of Scotland, has asked Scottish TV children's-show host Glen Michael to make a cameo appearance.

First Movie Pictures:

Half Blood Prince - New Trailer

Yet another new trailer to excite the geek inside of you. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, due for release in July 09, is looking better and better all the time. This trailer in particular has some goose bump inducing moments right at the end to get those anticipation juices flowing.

Leaked - The new Star Trek movie trailer

With only one day and a handful of hours to go until we can watch the new Star Trek trailer in high def from www.startrekmovie.com it appears a cinema recorded version has made it's way onto the web already.

If you're really into this movie I'd wait for tomorrow and not watch this low quality one, but for those of you that are as impatient as I am here it is...

Possibly the hottest movie superheroin ever?

Lynda Carter and Helen Slater were both true Super-Hotties in their tv and movie outfits back in the day and although you couldn't really call Kate Beckinsale's vampiric Underworld character "Seline" a superhero she was definitely one of Hollywood's hottest Lycra/ PVC clad actresses. But I think we have a new lady on the block who'll take the crown without having to work at it at all. Malin Ackerman's Silk Spectre II from the new Watchmen movie. Yes we've all seen her already in the yellow and black, tighter than tight outfit (photo above), but these pics below show just how unbelievably hot Ackerman is... Roll on Watchmen!

Tomb Raider: Underworld out next Friday

Another highly anticipated game to get its release in the UK next Friday is Tomb Raider: Underworld. Again it's another gaming series I've played every one of since its PS1 release and the last outing on the X-Box 360 was a huge amount of fun. I've read that the motorbike riding has been tweaked and improved in this game and that you'll actually end up wielding the mighty God of Thunder's hammer itself "Mjolnir" to vanquish your foes, which should be something to look forward to! Lara has never looked better, but I have to admit I'm not liking the voice this time round... Watch the video and see what you think.

Lara Croft, the gaming geeks favourite choice...

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe out next Friday

With under a week left until the UK release of the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe video game I thought I'd put some video up to wet your appetites. I've been playing MK games since the first came out on the Sega Megadrive all those years ago and being the huge DC fan that I am this game suits me very well. I don't think it'll blow anyone's minds but it'll be a great game to play nonetheless. I can't wait to play as the DC characters!

Watchmen Movie - Brand New Trailer

And so the Watchmen movie phenomenon continues... This brand spanking new trailer is even more enticing than the first and shows just how cool this comic book conversion could really be.

Lets hope it lives up to all the hype and blows movie-goers away when it's finally released.

ENJOY!

Empireonline Star Trek Movie News

The boys over at Empireonline were granted a seat at the first ever World screening of some new Star Trek footage, presented by JJ Abrams himself, and have put together a long and comprehensive page full of interesting information about the separate clips shown (albeit completely filled with spoilers, so be warned). It's definitely worth your reading time if you're looking forward to this movie, as I'm sure you can tell I certainly am!

Disney's Bolt - Trailer and images

Yet another animated movie I'm really looking forward to is Disney's "Bolt". Set for release on the 13th of Feb in the UK this movie looks like it could be a lot of fun with the voice cast including John Travolta, Miley Cyrus and Malcolm McDowell. I love Rhino... he's probably me if I was a hamster!

Synopsis:

The follows Bolt (John Travolta), a small white German Shepherd who has lived all his life on the set of a TV show in which he portrays a superhero dog. As a result, he thinks that his superpowers, and events on film, are real. When he is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood sound stage to New York City, he embarks on a cross-country journey to reunite with his owner and co-star, Penny (Miley Cyrus). Along the way, Bolt teams up with a jaded house cat named Mittens (Susie Essman) and a TV-obsessed hamster named Rhino (Mark Walton) that also happens to be an extreme Bolt fan-boy, and eventually he discovers that he doesn't need superpowers to be a hero.

Trailer:

A video game based on the film is scheduled to be released on November 18, 2008 for Nintendo DS, Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. An application has also been released for the app version of Apple's iTunes Store.

A screenshot of the 360 game, could be cool for the kids.

Lost season 5 and Battlestar season 4 part two

Come January 2009 two of my favourite TV programmes will be literally exploding back on to our screens again. Lost and Battlestar Galactica.

Lost will enter it's fifth season in the US on January 21st, 2008 with a special three hour event that will start off with an hour long recap special which will be followed by the season’s first two episodes broadcast back-to-back. With an almighty cliffhanger from season four still hanging over our heads, season 5 has to be the most highly anticipated season so far. Word on the Internet is that character Anna Lucia will return, albeit for one episode, along with doomed brother and sister Boon Carlyle and Shannon Rutherford. I can't wait for this new run, but unfortunately I'll have to...

Although Lost has alienated a lot of it's viewers over the last few seasons (those who just couldn't rap their brains around the labyrinthine plot) it has always kept my interest and just watching the promo for season 5 below gives me goosebumps.

Here's the teaser for season 5

The second half of Battlestar Galactica season 4 (consisting of 10 episodes) will begin airing in the US on January 16th, 2009. Some of these episodes will run longer than the traditional episode with the series finale possibly running for up to four hours. Hopefully these final episodes will answer a myriad of questions posed recently including: Who is the 5th and final Cylon, what happened to Kara Thrace (Starbuck) when she disappeared, what is Baltar's destiny, who's in who's head out of Six and Baltar, what are the repercussions of Six's actions with the "Toasters", what happened on the Earth our heroes found at the end of the first half of season 4 and finally would Cylon Six ever considering marry me?... Er, scratch the last one...

Here's a trailer for season 4 which should re-cap some major story threads or those of you that have forgotten what's been going on.

Even more new Star Trek pics...

The hype is growing for JJ Abram's 2009 Star Trek movie and the slow trickle of images released over the last few weeks has been wetting the appetite of many a Trekkie/ Trekker. The first image below is probably the most important, it's the new Enterprise ship design, and although it's not in keeping with the original series/ movies designs it still does look very good.

If you visit the official movie site www.startrekmovie.com in roughly 5 days and 15 minutes from when this post was added you'll be able to watch the NEW HD trailer for the movie as well as find some high quality pictures and wallpaper downloads.

It's the old NCC-1701 herself, The Enterprise.
