Movie News Rundown!

A few titbits of news here which I've compiled into one post featuring minor movie news from Hollywood this week. Enjoy!

New Terminator Movie Called "Genesis" Casts Its John And Sarah Connor!

News broke this week that the new Terminator movie titled "Terminator: Genesis" has cast John Connor and Sarah Connor by hiring Zero Dark Thirty's Jason Clarke and Game of Thrones own Mother of Dragons Emilia Clarke respectively. Arnie himself has been tipped to star in the film as a human close to the Connor family with a new actor playing the Terminator role, which will be strange but also awesome if Mr. Schwarzenegger gets to take on a T-800 himself!

Jason Momoa In Talks For Batman vs. Superman Role?

Conan the Barbarian and Stargate: Atlantis actor Jason Momoa is supposedly in talks for a role in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie and the internet is awash with speculation as to who he'll play. Most people have noted that the man mountain would be wasted on anything other than a villain such as Metallo or Doomsday (wouldn't Doomsday be CGI?) but others are saying he's going to Martian Manhunter... For now I can't see him in any of those roles, and he may not even get the part, so stay tuned.

Sony Expanding The Spider-Man Movie Universe With Venom And Sinister Six?

Yes it's true, Sony Pictures and Marvel are to bring some of Spidey's biggest villains to the big screen with proposed movies for both Venom and The Sinister Six (both of which have been hinted at in the latest Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer). The move is said "to forge a a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen" and may follow the release of Spidey 3 in 2016. Interesting.

Welcome To The Jungle/The Rundown Getting A Sequel?

Dwayne Johnson will return in a sequel to 2003's Welcome to the Jungle (also known in the US as The Rundown) the very enjoyable action movie that also featured Sean William Scott. The new movie is set to give Johnson a new sidekick but n other details have been ironed out just yet. I'm really happy about this as I loved the first film, I actually only watched it again about two days ago!

Don Cheadle To Return For The Avengers: Age Of Ultron?

According to USA Today, Don Cheadle is set to reprise his role as James "Rhodey" Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine, in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. In an interview with the actor, the site simply states that he'll have "a part to film in the next Avengers movie."

I know a lot of people would have loved for Don to suit up and fight along side the Avengers in the first movie, but then he's not an original Avenger (although you could say the same for Black Widow and Hawkeye) so the second movie seems fitting. The question is... will he suit up as War Machine or Iron Patriot?

Rio 2 - Trailer

Rio is one film I've never got round to watching, but my kids loved it and said to put up the trailer for the sequel, so here it is!

Rich with grandeur, character, colour and music, RIO 2 finds Jewel (Hathaway), Blu (Eisenberg) and their three kids leaving their domesticated life in that magical city for a journey to the Amazon. They encounter a menagerie of characters who are born to be wild.

Doctor Who: The Time Of The Doctor - Trailer And New Images!

Another trailer to give you geeky goosebumps is the new BBC teaser for Matt Smith's final bow - The time of the Doctor! Here's the teaser and yet more images from the special Christmas Day episode!

Sherlock - Season 3 Trailer!

As a massive fan of BBC's Sherlock I have to admit to having goosebumps when I watched this new teaser trailer for the upcoming 3rd season! How is he back? We all want to know!!!

Two years after the devastating effects of “The Reichenbach Fall,” Dr John Watson has got on with his life. New horizons, romance and a comforting domestic future beckon. But, with London under threat of a huge terrorist attack, Sherlock Holmes is about to rise from the grave with all the theatricality that comes so naturally to him. It’s what his best friend wanted more than anything, but for John Watson it might well be a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’! If Sherlock thinks everything will be just as he left it though, he’s in for a very big surprise...

Edge Of Tomorrow - Trailer

Groundhog Day 2? No, a new sci-fi movie based on the book "All you need is Kill" called "Edge of Tomorrow.

I wasn't a huge fan of Cruise's Oblivion, but I do love his other movies and I know that although he's been 50/50 with his hit and miss movie ratio for the last few years but I like the look of this!

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

The movie also stars Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, and Franz Drameh.

Jupiter Ascending - Trailer

"Jupiter Ascending" is a brand new sci-fi movie starring Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, & Seas Bean and written and directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski (the Matrix/Cloud Atlas).

In a universe where humans are near the bottom of the evolutionary ladder, a young destitute human woman is targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe because her very existence threatens to end the Queen's reign.

I hadn't even heard of this until the trailer came out this week!

Godzilla - New Trailer, Poster, And Images!

OK I admit it... That Godzilla shriek at the end gives me goosebumps and reminds me of my childhood when I used to watch the old Japanese movies. Awesome stuff. And yes this version of Godzilla looks infinitely better than the 1998 version starring Matthew Broderick! Let's hope it actually is!

Below is the epic-looking new trailer, poster, and a few choice pics released by Warner Bros. recently.

Enjoy!!!

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug - New Video Blog!

Peter Jackson and the Hobbit film crew have released a new video blog from behind the scenes focusing on the design, creation, and filming of Smaug the Dragon and other integral parts of "The Desolation of Smaug". Always lots of fun to watch!

X-Men: Days Of Future Past - Possible Post-Credits Apocalypse Scene Spoiler?

Warning: *SPOILERS*

At this point I'd take the following news with a pinch of salt as I really can't see this being true, although directors have always had licence for artistic interpretation with well known characters and their histories and powers etc.

Supposedly this is the breakdown of the post credits scene to X-Men: Days of Future Past which follows on to X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016. The information is from firstshowing.net and sourced from geektyrant.com. It doesn't mean it's true, but they seem to think it is!

"The credits bumper jumps back to the past with a young Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) in a ramshackle house in the desert eating dinner, clearly on the run from all the authorities who want to bring him down. While using a well outside to get some water, the young Magneto sees something fall from the night sky and crash to Earth nearby. Upon inspecting the impact zone, he encounters what is described as an 'alien form' who is 'towering, terrifying, with a twisted metal face and dark pits for eyes.' It's Apocalypse and he says, 'I have crossed rivers of time to find you.' Magneto asks, 'Who are you?'

"The alien responds, 'I am your future.' Suddenly Apocalypse merges with Magneto, who screams and blasts an insane amount of energy and shockwaves around him. This energy explosion levels everything around him, with a blast radius that goes for miles. As Magneto looks at what he's done, he has a realization of the power he now holds and a villainous grin begins to form before the film cuts to black."

This obviously isn't the Apocalypse we know from the comics and cartoons and it sounds a little poor having been given the exciting news that Apocalypse was going to feature in the new film. We want the big guy front and centre!!!

Doctor Who: The Time Of The Doctor - New Pics!

A brand new set of pics have been released by the BBC including a couple that reveal a new breed of bad guy which could be a serious problem for the Doctor and his Sonic Screwdriver - Wooden Cybermen!!!

X-Men: Apocalypse Movie For 2016?

Yesterday X-Men director Bryan Singer set the geek world on fire with a single erroneous Tweet saying "#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016". Minutes later a Tweet from a box office data service called Exhibitor Relations Tweeted a release date of May 27th 2016 which supposedly came straight from 20th Century Fox.

As many X-Men fans will know Apocalypse is a massive villain in the X-universe both in the comics and on the 90's cartoon show and if this is what Singer is directly hinting at then that's an amazing choice for a movie and its villain. But does this just mean Apocalypse is the villain in a standard present day story or are we actually going to see the Age of Apocalypse comic storyline? He's already filming Days of Future Past so there's no doubting he would then go on to do this too... Either way I'm sold!

More news as it's released.

Doctor Who: The Time Of The Doctor - New Poster

A new poster here for the upcoming Christmas Day episode (and Matt Smith's last) "The Time of the Doctor".

Fast And Furious 7 May Be Scrapped And Re-Filmed In Wake Of Paul Walker's Death?

I doubt very much that any one missed the news on Saturday/Sunday this week that Fast and Furious star Paul Walker tragically died in a car crash that also took the life of his friend Roger Rodas. The Porsche Carerra GT Rodas was driving during a charity event left the road and crashed into a tree and a minute later blew up in a fireball.

Fast and Furious 7 was nearing the end of production and in a press conference the day after the accident Universal Pictures stated they were going to suspend production of the movie until they could figure out what to do now that the main star had died. Now it seems they can't find a work around and may have to scrap the entire movie they've already made and re-do the whole thing writing Walker out of the film completely. The studio's insurance covers such things so there will be no monetary loss but obviously the loss to all of Walker's friends and family is devastating and it may take a while for anyone to get back on track and continue the film.

Below is a tribute video made by the Fast and Furious production team showing scenes from the last 6 movies. I have always been a huge fan of these movies and I admit that this brought a tear to my eye.

R.I.P Paul Walker

Avengers 2 Officially Casts Scarlet Witch And Quicksilver

This information is quite late as it officially broke last week and has been a rumour for almost a month before that but I thought better late than never!

Marvel released an official press release last week stating that Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) has been cast as the mutant speedster Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen (Oldboy) as his mutant chaos witch sister The Scarlet Witch in the 2015 Avengers: Age of Ultron movie.

The comic world is still waiting for news of other Avengers comic characters such as The Vision, Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel and possibly Wonderman but it would seem so far that we're only going to be getting small additions to each movie as they continue, so hopefully by Avengers 3 we could have a huge team roster with possible crossovers like Spider-Man and the X-Men... now wouldn't that be cool?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - First Trailer And Hi-Res Poster!!!

Wow... just wow.

This brand new trailer premièred today for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and as a fan I absolutely love it... Look at all the Easter Eggs for other villains (Sinister Six?), the epic looking battles, the beauty of those shots! Some may have been worried when the pre-CGI pics were posted up, some were worried seeing the new poster this week, but worry no more because this is going to rock!

Below is the new trailer followed by the hi-res version of the poster posted up on here the other day. Enjoy!

Warner Bros. have released a new trailer for the upcoming 300: Rise of an Empire this week which sees Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) attempt to unite his country even as he goes up against the Persian forces led by Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and Artemisia (Eva Green).

Batman vs Superman Movie Has Its Wonder Woman!

I have to admit that I didn't honestly believe that the upcoming Batman vs Superman movie would actually include Wonder Woman, even when the rumours leaked recently, but hey I'm glad to be proven mistaken as news broke this week that Gal Gadot (best known for appearing in the Fast & Furious movie franchise) has been cast in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel.

In a statement, Snyder stated: "Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favourite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."

Now I'm personally fine with this choice but I know a lot of people who aren't and were praying for someone like MMA stunner Gina Carano (due to body size/muscles/believable fighting skills etc) and I'll admit that would have been dream casting, but although Gal is currently very skinny she's a fantastic choice and has quite a bit of time to bulk up and out on some muscle, if that's what is needed. To be honest if you know the history of Wonder Woman you'll know that her strength and powers have nothing to do with her muscles or her size and are almost solely based on magic and who and what she is, so who's to say she won't look amazing lifting a car above her head either way? :)
