"Powers" TV Pilot Rejected (Temporarily) By FX...

It looks like the US channel "FX" has decided to pass on the pilot for the comic adaptation TV series "Powers". According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX President and General Manager John Landgraf announced that the channel has decided not to pick up the Powers pilot in its current incarnation. Rather than rejecting the show outright, however, FX has asked writer Charles Eglee for "a fairly substantial rewrite," one that would require "pretty extensive reshoots."

So although this isn't another "Wonder Woman" incident it does put Powers in the wastebasket of limbo for the time being... :(

Katee Sackhoff To Star Opposite Vin Diesel In Untitled 'Riddick' Sequel!

Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick are both good films in their own right. Good but not brilliant. Still I've always been open to yet another addition to the series and now news has landed that the 3rd outing is moving forward and that Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackoff has landed the lead role opposite Vin Diesel!

The movie has been written by and will be directed by David Twohy and production is now underway following a couple of months break due to financing issues.

Star Trek 2 Casting News

Some pretty big casting news has been released for JJ Abrams new Star Trek 2 movie over the last couple of weeks. 4 names, some of which you may know, and some you may not have been announced and one of them I'm really happy about. You'll have to guess that one though.

The names so far are:

Peter Weller (famous for Robocop) - Unknown dignitary

Alice Eve (She's out of my league, Men in Black III) - New unnamed character

Noel Clarke (Mickey from Doctor Who and the director of films like Adulthood & 4,3,2,1 etc) - A family man (?)

Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC1's Sherlock) - Main villain (supposedly)!

Awesome stuff if it's all true, and of course if you didn't guess it's Cumberbatch that I'm the most happy about (no not Alice Eve!). His acting in Sherlock has been truly amazing and I can't wait to see him on the big screen with the possibility of playing the main antagonist!

LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes has now been 100% confirmed for a Summer 2012 release across multiple platforms and will expand on the first game by including playable characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern (among many more to be announced no doubt). Massive news for me and my eldest daughter who love the Lego games, and the fact that it's Batman and the DC superheroes in it again!

And Lego does it again by announcing that they've gained the rights to Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit... This means that not only will Lego be making figures and sets revolving around key characters and scenes from these epic movies, but there may also be a Lego LOTR and/or Hobbit video game as well, which is possibly the most epic gaming news I've had in a long while... If that happens of course!

I Must Own This Avengers Desk!

Tom Spina Designs, designers of the Han Solo carbonite desk we've previously posted on this blog, had a unique request from one of their customer named Mark Hall. Mark wanted a custom built desk that showed his passion for Marvel's upcoming Superhero team up movie The Avengers. So Tom and his team got together and designed this beautiful desk that uses made from scratch props. You will notice front and center is Captain America's shield, and surrounded on both sides of it is Thor's mighty hammer Mjölnir as well as Iron Man's helmet and Arc Reactor. The back of the desk has a special place for Hawkeye's trick arrows that opens up to to reveal drawers along with The Hulk's Gamma container that gives more space for all important paper work. The top of the desk includes an officially licensed Nick Fury Needle Gun for display.

You may or not be aware that the world famous Jaws ride at Universal Studios Orlando is shutting down to make way for another attraction (supposedly a Hogwarts Express addition to the Islands of Adventure Harry Potter park).

Erica Durance Dressed As Wonder Woman!

I don't think an image of Erica Durance dressed as Wonder Woman needs too much explaining as most of the people discovering this post who aren't following this blog are simply looking for dirty kicks... But still, here goes.

You may remember that Erica dressed as an Amazonian Warrior back in Smallville a few years ago, which looked a lot like Wonder Woman (even having the lasso, gauntlets and tiara of sorts) but wasn't addressed as such.

Well now, for an episode of "Harry's Law" (a show fronted by David E. Kelley who also did the new Wonder Woman TV pilot), she's playing a character who actually believes she's the DC super-heroine and dresses up and acts like her too. The outfit Erica is wearing is the actual one from the ill-fated series that Adrianne Palicki wore, but as everyone can clearly see Miss Durance fills it out to extreme perfection compared to Miss Palicki, and I'm sure that if they'd chosen Smallville's own Lois Lane for the series it wouldn't have been turned down!

Vin Diesel Confirms 6th And 7th 'Fast And Furious' Movies!

It was reported recently during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the next 'Fast And Furious' movie will have to be split into two movies and both are being written at the same time. Vin Diesel has said that during the process of the new movie, the Fast and Furious creative team, which includes director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan, realized that they would need a seventh movie to tell their story.

"With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space," Diesel commented.

The last movie, "Fast Five" changed the franchise with the involvement of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and teased the return of a character played by Eva Mendes last seen in "2 Fast 2 Furious" as well as the return of Michelle Rodriguez.

"We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages," Diesel explained. "The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’"

Diesel did not reveal details on whether the two movies would be two-parters or two standalone movies.

Contrary to everything I do and don't love in the movie world I'm a massive Fast and Furious fanboy and can't wait for more movies in the series! :P

Amy And Rory Finally Leaving Doctor Who In Season 7?

I'd posted way back during season 6 that Amy and Rory were due to leave the show (based on the internet chatter at the time), but it would seem it's now been confirmed that we're going to have to wait for that until midway through season 7.

Showrunner Steven Moffat announced that the companions will have a "heartbreaking end" when they depart, which for most fans is pretty much alluding to the fact that they're going to die... Or be screwed over in some major way. If you saw the X-mas episode you'd have seen just how attached, emotionally, our beloved Timelord has become with the pair and I can only assume that this will be one of the most heart-wrenching departures the show has had (I believe Donna was the most painful for fans so far over the last 6 seasons) so let's hope it's done with due care and attention because I shed a tear at almost every episode of Doctor Who in the last 2 years and I don't think I can handle the loss!!! :P

Left 4 Dead Action Figures & Gaming News...

First off we finally have some proper Left 4 Dead action figures being made, and the good news is that they're coming from NECA. The bad news is that we only have news on the Boomer and Smoker zombies so far and nothing on the playable characters that I know everyone is desperate for. Pics are below.

The second bit of news is that a couple of days ago the L4D blog announced that the "Cold Stream" DLC plus the original L4D 1 levels will be available to download soon for L4D 2. First on the PC and then Xbox 360. This was the blog post:

"As we recently posted on our blog, we are busy working on the full Cold Stream DLC which will include Cold Stream, Blood Harvest, Crash Course, Dead Air, Death Toll, and No Mercy. We will be updating Campaigns on Steam with bug fixes as we get ready to ship the DLC.

Check the release notes as the list of fixes is extensive. The Xbox 360 will get Campaigns with the bug fixes at a future date".

For a massive L4D 1 & 2 fanboy like myself both bits of news are amazingly good! :P

Former Winged Warrior, now Amazon Princess on this blog posted up a 2012 movie rundown recently but one of the movies that stands out for me is this one - "Lockout".

I can't say that Guy Pearce is an actor I've ever liked too much, but then he has appeared in some of my favourite movies.

This new sci-fi film has him playing a man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. who is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates. Escape from New York in space then... With humour it seems!

I haven't watched any of Cohen's movies before, and I don't intend to start now either. Even if Megan Fox is in this one! Actually I'm surprised he's still alive after his consecutive string of politically incorrect movies!!!

Family Guy Online? New MMO Game?

We've got our first look at screenshots from the upcoming MMO based on Family Guycalled (obviously) Family Guy Online. There still aren't a lot of details about what the game is about or what players will be doing in the fully-3D version of Peter Griffin's hometown, but it's currently in closed beta. According to the info page on the site, with the free-to-play game "You can create a character, become a citizen of virtual Quahog, and play and interact with your friends and favorite show characters." According to these screenshots (and what's likely the back of a player character's head), yup, you can definitely create your own character and tool around Quahog interacting with characters from the show.

Here's what the Mayor of Quahog himself had to say about his role in the game during our interview at SDCC:

Adam West: Well, Family Guy Online is an interesting concept to me because as the Mayor of Quahog, I'll be "hosting" the game, but it's a game in which the viewer can create their own character and be part of Family Guy. So anyone who wants to do it can create a character that's loveable, warm, funny, or absurd--whatever they want to do--and jump into the game. And I'll kind of direct them around a little bit.

We'll find out more about Family Guy Online after it ends its closed beta. You can check out the details so far on developer Roadhouse Interactive's site.

Tropic Thunder being the only other time Cruise has rocked the screen in the past! :P

We're only 2 days into 2012 and I have some bad news for followers of Kryptonian Warrior. I would have replaced the word "Bad" with "Devastating" or "Terrible", but considering the thousands of other things in life that could be much worse than this news I think "Bad" should suffice...

As you're no doubt aware I've been doing this blog since 2008, roughly 4 years now, and within the last year and a half you may have seen a large amount of posts about me fulfilling my lifelong dream of opening up a comic shop in my home town of Chelmsford, UK. It was an extremely tough ride setting the whole thing up and creating a large "Superstore" which grew every month with more and more stock, both comic related and entertainment orientated, but in the end we did end up with a fantastic store with tons of products and a big customer following. It's the coolest shop ever! :P

Unfortunately although I had the ability and good fortune to be able to go big with my first store, with 7 life-size statues adorning our massive front windows, arcade machines at the back, the ability to play movies or games for customers (and the staff) behind the till on a big LCD TV and have a massive stock room upstairs, we never managed to get the footfall or custom we needed to battle the insurmountable overheads that a 3000 square foot store inevitably produces. We have loyal returning customer week on week, we have a popular e-commerce website that now supplies our awesome range across the world (with more to come now that the store is closing) and we are very well known throughout our County as the biggest and best comic & collectable store for miles. But it's still not enough... And that sucks.

I aim to open up a much smaller store in the future, which could be months, or years. But Red Sun is not dead or going into administration in any way, and for that I am very thankful for and of course very lucky to be able to say. In our shopping precinct alone companies I consider pretty big are dropping like flies. Hawkin's Bazaar and La Senza have gone into administration recently and big boys such as Game and HMV aren't far behind from what I understand. And that's only the start of a ton of shops all crashing and burning. We're heading into a second recession and we already fought through the first, with our heads held high I might add! But in the end we came out the other side bruised and beaten, but not dead. Far from dead.

Either way Red Sun will continue in as many ways as I can possibly keep it going and as I'll have more time on my hands I'll be able to update this blog more, post on our Facebook page more and take over our Twitter account for even more interaction with our customers and fans.

I'd like to take this oppurtunity to thank all my staff, both past and present, who made the store what it is today and who worked their individual butts off every single day, to my family for supporting me and the store in every way possible, to the various guests we've had signing in store, to both the UK Garrison and the Heroes Alliance UK who have come to support us on our numerous special occasions, and to the customers who made working in the store a pure joy. Red Sun was an amazing adventure while it lasted and I hope those of you that were with me for the ride, in some way or form, felt that too...

Fillion made his debut as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan in the recent Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, and took his initial DC Universe movie bow as the voice of Steve Trevor in the 2008 hit Wonder Woman. Daly originated his role as Superman’s voice in the landmark cartoon, Superman: The Animated Series. He has reprised the role in two DC Universe films: the 2009 extravaganza Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and the 2010 thriller Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

The grand reunion of actors who provided the voices of the Justice League for the cartoon of the same name and its follow-up, Justice League Unlimited, includes Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series) as Batman, Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville, Breaking In) as Flash, Susan Eisenberg (Superman/Batman: Apocalypse) as Wonder Woman and Carl Lumbly (Alias) as J’onn J’onzz/Martian Manhunter. Bumper Robinson (A Different World, Transformers: Animated) joins the cast as Cyborg.

The Justice League faces two sets of villainous teams in the film – The Royal Flush Gang and a sextet of notable evildoers. The latter group includes three voice acting alumni of the Justice League animated series: Phil Morris (Smallville, Seinfeld) as Vandal Savage, Olivia d’Abo (The Wonder Years) as Star Sapphire, and Alexis Denisof (Angel) as Mirror Master. Also opposing our heroes are Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911) as Bane, Paul Blackthorne (The Dresden Files) as Metallo, and Claudia Black (Farscape, Stargate SG-1) as Cheetah.

David Kaufman (Danny Phantom) also reprises his Justice League role of Jimmy Olsen.

The film is executive produced by Bruce Timm (Batman: Year One), and directed by Lauren Montgomery (Batman: Year One), who is also credited as producer alongside Alan Burnett (Batman: The Animated Series). Justice League: Doom is the final DC Universe film script from the late Dwayne McDuffie (All-Star Superman, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths), who passed away in February 2011. Casting and dialogue direction is once again in the capable hands of Andrea Romano (Batman: Year One, Justice League).

3) Located on the Caribbean island of St. Martin, Maho Beach is adjacent to an airport runway. Departing planes whip up blasts of water and sand, and incoming planes, well, just watch.

New Red Dwarf Series In 2012...

I admit that I knew about this ages ago but forgot to post about it.

Red Dwarf is supposedly coming back for a brand new series in 2012 (having failed to meet fan expectation the last time it was temporarily rebooted with the "Back to Earth" miniseries back in 2009) and I for one am extremely excited. I love Red Dwarf, I have all the DVD boxsets, I have all the autographs from the cast and we have all the paraphernalia that's possibly available in my shop (Red Sun).

I think I can safely say that I'm a Left 4 Dead obsessive and for the past two years I've played the game on an almost nightly basis... So it will come as no surprise that I'm stoked that I just came across a possible fan-film through this teaser trailer below.

The short video showcases features 3 of the 4 main characters from the first game Zoe, Francis, and Louis and could well turn out to be my favourite fan-film of all time, next to Batman: Dead End and World's Finest!
